Fishing Rod Butt

Featured Replies

My fishing Butt is wearing out on my rod, it’s dobyn’s fury series, it is foam. How hard would it be to replace this?

Contact Dobyns - can probably get them to send you a new butt piece.

Then it's just a matter of scraping the old one off and gluing the new one on.

foam is pretty stretchy so you can probably just slide it up over the butt of the rod.  easy enough if you just take your time.  Nothing special needed but a razor blade and some 24 hour epoxy.

Got a photo of the rod in question?  I would be a lot more confident in commenting if I could see the problem.  I'm not sure what you mean by "wearing out."

That Dobyns foam handle on the Furies is not thorn resistant, one of mine looks likes some rodent has been gnawing on it. If you have a cyclist friend, get a used road bike inner tube and cut it to length and slide it up, works like a charm, but other than cosmetic, the rod will fish fine without it.

If it's just surface deterioration another good solution is to wrap all grips with Winn tape.

Email Dobyns a picture of it, see what they say.
