Anybody routinely use slip floats in your pursuit of channel cats? If so are there any floats you prefer?

Doesn't really matter but which one I'm using varies a lot depending on current and size of bait I'm floating.

They're very nice, but also wood so they get broken pretty easily. I tend to stick to foam style ones

Oh yeah good call. Maybe ill stick with foam.

I just use the cheap red and white foam ones from Walmart most of the time. Inexpensive and gets the job done.

I use to do a lot of catfishing off of the bank.  The size of the floater always depended on the type of bait I was fishing with, and how far out I was fishing.  Easier to see if the floater is large.

Is your float fishing for cats always live bait, or can you use dead or chunk bait?

Cut bait or chicken is fine - it more depends on where you’re fishing and what species of cats. Live or fresh cut for flatheads around cover/structure and cut or chicken around structure or bait for blues and channels.

I'm usually using cut bait. Only time I might use live bait is if I'm after flatheads.
