Met up with a friend early and headed out before first light.  While driving on Alligator Alley I had a blow out on the trailer.  So here we are, in darkness, changing a tire, while semi's wiz bye within yards of us.  We continued to the closest ramp and headed east on the water.  After a two mile run we started working.  Every cast our bait was being messed with but it was hard to hook them.  The reason was, those were not bass.  I put on a Super Fluke and  hooked it through the nose with the hook exposed.  If you let it sink to the bottom and hard jerked it up,and then on slack line let it sink again, and keep repeating.  The bite got crazy.  Soon it was every cast.  Oscars, Mayans, Peacock, Rock Bass, and Bowfins.  The canal is full of millions of these fish.  Big ones too.  Although the goal was black bass, not one bass bite.  You might ask why,  when you surrounded by million of exotics of all size, your just too full to move.  Its like after Thanksgiving dinner, you just want to find a place to chill for a while!  Fun day, but nothing turned out like we  expected.

Glad you had a great time other than the blowout. The glades is jammed pack full of so much diversity that it makes fishing practically guaranteed! The word skunk never applies down here in the glades lol. I like those odds and is why I always fish the glades so much. Try it at night! Go further west or further south to the brackish areas and the tarpon start biting, big ones, too. Snook also come alive. So the diversity can be gauged, or calibrated, so to speak, to get into all kinds of species, including black bass.

I’ve been wanting to make an alligator alley trip. Talked to a guy the other day had all kinds of pictures of the different fish they caught.

Thanks for sharing geo g

When the water in the Glades is low the fishing gets absolutely crazy.  Exotics were a problem when I left in 1997.  Can't imagine what's happening now?  If you want to target only bass, fish a large black worm on the bottom.  You may catch a gigantic mud fish, but that's not a bad thing.
