Just a head up for US 27 and Alley fisherman.

There have been recent break ins, tailgate stolen, and an airboat trailer stolen along US 27, north of Alligator Alley, and at some ramps along the Alley.  It has been in the last month, and four guys were hit on the same day.  This has happened before over the years, and hopefully the police will be more vigilant.  Cameras are all along the Alley so it might be a little safer then going to US 27 right now.  Good luck, and if something doesn't look right, CALL and report.  Please let others know, maybe we can catch one of these dirtbags!

That's a very isolated area. Not too long ago coming back from Lauderdale I took 27 to Clewiston. I wasn't real comfortable but would have loved to have stopped and fished those canals. I didn't check but can you even get phone reception out there?

It’s somewhat spotty until you get closer to South Bay and Belle Glade, but I never completely lost a signal.
If you decide to fish that stretch just pick your spots carefully

I left South Florida in 1997.  In the years before I left, boat ramp break ins were rising.  This is a shame as the area has some of the best canal fishing.  Unfortunately, there aren't enough police to patrol the more remote areas.  The nicer your stuff, the more prone you are to thieves.  Buy an old junk truck with a big dog in the bed. ?

Every rest area on the Alley has a camera on a pole.  If they would just monitor for activity, or fix the cameras if they are not working, it could be an easy catch.  It’s not like you have many escape routes.

When I lived in Jax and fished some local tournaments, there was a rash of prop thefts from boats on lifts on the St Johns river.  Thief eventually go caught and had something like 30 or 40 stainless props at his house.  Come to find out it was a guide who scoped out boats on lifts during the day with clients, then came back at night and stole the props.  He was a good stick in the tournament circuit as well.
