One of my 2 Talons is not living it's best life. When I deploy it, it is making a bad metal on metal sound really loud. I tried cleaning the Talon by extending it, scrubbing it it and lubricating the tracks. It sounded better but the next time out on the water it sounded just as bad. It is when the middle section extends. I'm not sure if there is a rock stuck somewhere but it sounds like metal grinding and it's high pitched. I tried cleaning again at full extension and sprayed a lot of WD-40 on the tracks as well as the pulleys at the top. It sounds good now but I haven't tried it on the water, I don't know if the WD will wear off once it is in the water.  I don't see how to take the talon apart or do more than I've done. I may have solved the problem, I'll know that next time on the water. Has anyone else had this issue or have any tips? 

What length talon do you have @70diesel?  I might be able to help you.  I have a 12 foot model.  @A-Jay has a couple 12 foot models too if I'm not mistaken and he actually broke one last year so that he took apart to replace.

I've been running my twin 12 ft Talons since 2016.

Starting perhaps three years ago, I've also experienced some on & off 'Squeaking';

mostly with just one unit.  First few times I did the same clean & lube deal.

That seemed to work OK, and lasted several trips.

However, the clean & lube of both units has become part of my regular boat mainainance.

Especially after deploying the units at places that have a super soft of sandy bottom.

I'd figure at 2 or 3 times a season now.

Full dry land extension allows for an inspection of the whole deal.

Considering how hard I work those units, should probably be done routinely anyway. 

 

 

And I did need to replace a spike a while back which has been good to go ever since.

I have the 10' models. 

Flush them out after every trip and spray with WD40

 

If you have issues with WD40 comming off in the water, try some Dow 111 valve lubricant.  It is a very sticky silicone grease that does not come off easily in water !!  Designed for a lube in high pressure valves and not harmfull to the water.  Also used as a diaelectric sealant, I use it when I crimp my electrical connectors. Being silicone grease it is good for plastic/ rubber seals and grommets. Just some food for thought.....
