BPS Johnny Morris Signature spinning reel

Featured Replies

Does anyone know who makes these?  Just curious. I bought one today and feels really smooth and nice.

White/Gold model is a Execeler/Fuego with more bearings, and Silver/Red model is a Procyon AL.

I believe you’re referring to the Carbonlite 2.0 I bought the 1500 size at last year’s spring sale and I love the reel.

The Johnny Morris Signature Series spinning reels (black and gold) are also made by Diawa.

The black and gold is the one I have. Seems real nice and smooth so far.

Those are very nice reels. When I worked for BPS, we rarely had anyone return a JM Signature Series reel. With proper maintenance, you'll be enjoying that reel for years to come.

I do not believe that they are made by Diawa.

Yeah, they are made by Daiwa. Some sort of mongrel of BG/Eliminator with the air bail. And yes, given that pedigree I would expect them to be quite smooth.

All the reel companies farm out some or all of their production for their own brands. All these “who makes…” discussions are somewhat irrelevant at the end of the day except unless one is looking to retrofit parts which are notoriously unavailable for store branded reels.

Common misconception that name brands produce private label brands anymore for big names. (aside from co-branding).  In this case its probably still Global Sino.

Don't know who makes them but I have one of the Red/silver ones and two Carbonlite 2.0 special editons.  Wouldn't trade them for any other reel.  Smooth and pretty nice.  I've had the Red/silver one for 3-4 years.  great reel.
