Welcome to the forum. You are going to love this little boat. I run a 50lb Minn Kota and didn't change any of the wiring. I did add a 50 amp resetable fuse in my battery box though. I think that the longer the wire run the thicker the wire you need. You maybe ok with the stock set up. Plus running wires in these boats are a PIA. I had to run some for my LED lights. Took me forever and a lot of cussing. I need to post pics soon.

thanks - I did get a Newport battery box with 60amp breaker so planned on that being sufficient.

on running the wire - I had planned on taping or crimping the new 6 to the old 10 and using the old to pull the new through the boat.... would that work?

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I just bought the 8' electric model yesterday, and I have a couple questions. 1) Is there any way to use an anchor with it? The 2 handles don't appear strong enough. 2) Can the standard seat be replaced with a different padded seat? 3) Is anyone able to post a pic of a dolly/cart that works with the Bass Raider? Thanks very much.

I have an 8 foot Sportsman and have done many mods. I utilize and an orange extension cord spool to hold nylon rope for a #3 or #5 claw anchor. I pre-tied 4" long loops every six feet to the rope. I added a rear skeg made from an old trolling motor shaft and $2.00 nylon cutting board mounted with 1 inch saddle type pipe brackets. The anchor loops drop over the top of skeg shaft. I also made a kick-up mechanism for the rudder just in case it strikes an underwater obstruction. I installed a 7" seat pedestal from Wal-Mart. It makes very easy to cast in any direction by "walking" the gunwales. I've built a couple two wheeled carts to get it from the truck to a shore or boat ramp to launch. One of the big issues is, a mossy ramp can be unsafe for manual launching and retrieval. Might be better to buy than to build if you have limited resources to materials and tools, but they are pricey. I built one similar the Dynamic Dollies Sportsman 8.5 with a longer reach so could avoid stepping on slick areas. I tie a 25' leash to it so I can walk it to a dock. It can be assembled/disassembled in less than 3 minutes, weighs less than #28 with 13" Harbor Freight no flat wheels, and compact enough to fit inside the craft when hauling in my Tacoma.

Howdy and welcome @chuga!

Hi,

I have started to work on rewiring (converting 10awg to 6awg) to support the Minn Kota 55lb TM.

I bought the 6 AWG wire and a ring crimper for the battery side today.

For the TM side of the run I found these replacement plugs (around 35$) which fit 6 AWG wire on amazon:

Marinco 12VCPS3 70A Trolling Motor Plug & Receptacle

or

70A Trolling Motor Plug & Receptacle for 2 or 3 Wire 12-48V Systems Compatible with Minn Kota Marine Boat, Watertight Heavy Duty Electrical Power Connector Black by moestoont

however -they are bigger than the Pelican plug which has 10awg.  So I would need to drill a larger hole (and they are deeper too).

before I go doing this - has anyone done this before or found another way to wire their TM to 6AWG wire?

thanks

Hey everyone. I just came across this forum and appreciate all the good information. I just recently purchased the Pond Prowler 10 to use in the local ponds. Has anyone purchased the NOCO GeniusPro10x1 or a similar charger for their battery and has any suggestions for mounting it? I was thinking of creating a wooden enclosure around the battery to mount it to. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing up and running.

I thought I would share. I bought a new Pelican Bass Raider 10e from my local Academy Sports today. They are having a Labor Day sale online with store pickup for $639. I was thrilled. I hope this helps somebody here. Thanks for all the tips and conversation on this thread.
