Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Featured Replies

I just installed a Lowrance HDS-5 fish finder.  I took the picture before I tucked all the transducer wires, etc. below the flooring.  Rain forecast today so probably won't get to try it out.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I think I have made some good improvements to my pelican.......holders for 6 rods...trolling motor...power pole micro anchor......small decking to hold battery box and 13 3700 Plano boxes.....anchor t

Took it out today, with just me the 45lb handles pretty good even with some wind. I launched by myself, just removed the battery. Rod holders and some clips for the paddle storage are next on the list, wish there was a product that I could put on the bottom like a keel guard so I could pull it on concrete. Would like to add carpet but don't want to add weight with plywood or anything. Maybe some way to stick the carpet to the plastic that can be removed easily?

Been thinking about taking a mushroom anchor with me the wind was blowing me around a little bit last time, anyone ever anchor at all?

Hey y'all!  I want one of these but I'm looking for a deal...I'm in Memphis and willing to drive a little ways to pick one up.  Anyone know anyone looking to get rid of one?  Craigslist has a few listed but no one is writing me back about their ads.  599 new at Academy, anywhere to get one cheaper?  Thanks!

May as well bite the bullet and get the one you mentioned. I searched and searched for a used one, finally broke down and paid retail at Dick's $699 less the 10% discount they gave me.

Anyone painted theirs yet?  Any ideas on the best paint to use?  My Bass hunters is a dingy black/grey two tone, and really want to make it sharp.

I have a 7' 11" bass hunter that i bought in the early 80's  a few years ago I took a good look and decided to paint it.,...

I ended up with the krylon plastic paint, spray cans, greyish in color., Gave the boat a good washing and a better rinse one day, and painted the next. Planned it so weather was nice for a few days and it came out awesome,..looks almost new at 35 years old

I don't even think about leaving shore without an anchor. anything over 5mph wind makes trying to control the boat and fish miserable. I mounted a cleat inside the boat on the side wall and drop anchor on any spot I want to fish halfway thoroughly. 10lb mushroom with 50 feet of 3/16 anchor rope.

thanks, mine is 9ft, but almost that old.  was thinking about a new paint scheme, but knowing krylon plastic works makes me happy.

i agree.  I added an anchor system for like 4 bucks at walmart and an 8 lb mushroom. Big wind will still blow you around, so no anchor would be horrible

Heyooooo.  Found a deal!  10E for 450 new.  At an outdoor store in mountain Grove MO.  Luckily my FIL lives there and agreed to pick it up for me and bring it to memphis on his next trip.   They have 4 more if anyone else wants one.  Can't wait to trick it out.

Great deal!

I have some carpet cut still trying to decide how I want to attach it, velcro isn't working. If for some reason I might need to remove it and glue it down it could get messy. Also seeing how a handle on the front would work when pulling it out of the water onto the bank. Last time I took it out I grabbed both cleats which wasn't very pleasant and kind of hard to do.

I covered a piece of 5mm luann with outdoor carpet stapled to the plywood and it has worked great for three years..

Ken

To make it easier to install and remove to replace if needed, I made my floor in 4 sections.  The two middle sections are 35" each and the two end ones are 13" each.  That leaves about a 4" gap at each end for wires to extend.  I had Lowes cut the carpet 22" and 14" widths to aide in the mounting to insure overlap.  I then glued and stapled the carpet to the plywood.  Someone had posted earlier to be careful of just stapling as they will rust.  Apparently that hasn't been a problem for Pond fisher on his.

In reviewing Vayned's post regarding adding a handle to the front to assist in loading I have to ask a question that has been on my mind.  I have a small harbor freight trailer that I use for my boat.  Has anyone backed their boat onto the trailer rather than loading front first?  To me, that answers the problem of having the handles added because you already have them on the sides in the back plus you could use your trolling motor if needed to get boat started on the trailer from lake.

My  main reason for this thought is because the trolling motor is mounted on the front and the trailer has a short tongue.  I have to pull the trolling motor all the way into the boat under the seat.

Hey ETEX...I was thinking about picking up one of those HF trailers today...they have em in stock and new for 299.  How do you like it overall?

It works fine for me.  I got the one that folds up if you want to. added 2x10's as runners and have  carpet over them to help slide the boat onto it.  Also added 2x4 in the side slots to keep the boat from moving side to side when travelling.

Has anyone been able to mount one of the flat type bow trolling motors. Looking to do like a 70 or 80 pound thrust instead of any type of gas motor.

Then do a smaller 30 lb for the front when fishing.

Thanks

Here is a link for reference to the type of mount i am talking about Thanks

Gas engines are rather expensive in this area even used.

Can't delete the darn quote from reply.

I only would use the front handle to pull it out of the water. With the trolling motor attached to the rear(how I use it) it makes it awkward  to grab the handles from the rear to load into the bed of the truck and unload since I don't have a trailer.

My wife just bought me one of these boats (Pelican 10e) for my anniversary present and so far I've had no problems. I've only fished by myself so far but I'm guessing it would be even more stable with 2 seeing how all the weight was in the rear of the boat I thought it might help level it out a little with someone up front. I'm a big guy 290 so I was a little worried at first but even when I stand it seems to be pretty sturdy. So far I just added a 55lb Minn Kota Endurance C2 with an Exide 31 battery one extendable paddle and a anchor. I mounted the motor on the rear for now and seems to control the boat pretty good but I might try adding a rudder and switching the motor to the front.

Go with the motor up front, make a rudder somehow, and never look back lol

Could add one of those anchor on a pulley things up front to even the weight out.

Anyway to get a flyer or the name of this store to contact them?

So i found a company that does a 3.5 hp motor but it has no reverse. Specs say it is 360 rotation so i am thinking you can just spin the motor around for revers but going to call them in the morning. So i am trying to figure something out so input please.

Should i go with a gas motor in the back and like a 50 lb trolling motor in the front on 12v and one battery or

go with a 80LB thrust 24 system in rear and a 30 in the front. Only issue is i wold be needing 3 marine batteries at a weight at or around 180LB. This is a lot. The gas engine on weight 22 lbs without fuel. Id be at 488 the  Minn Kota Traxxis 80 and 75 each on the deep cycle group 27 or 21 batteries. So price wise i would be right at

50 front troller with gas rear engine and battery -  825$ and weight about 102-115 lbs

80 lb troller rear and 2 batteris and 30 lb troller front with one bettery - 813$ and 200-225 weight.

I weight about 200 lb and wife is about 135ish.  The heaveast person i might take is about 250 lb.

600-250-200-225= (-75) to bad

600-250-200-115=35 to good

I know i am close without any other gear and i have seen the boats hold a lot more than the 600 lb but i would like to stay close to the max without going over if i can.

What are your thoughts
