Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

I received a couple replies on 1 or 2 of my questions. Was curious if i might be able to ask again. Dont want to make anyone made just looking to see if things would work before i buy.

Can anyone tell or show pics of how they are mounting their fish finders and transducers?

Can anyone tell me if this motor will fit. Here are the specs,

I use the right side rod holder for the FF setup. I believe it was a 2" piece of pipe 10" long, welded a washer to top. then bolted a ram mount to it ($30.00 ebay).I mostly leave the setup in the boat all the time and just unscrew the head unit of the FF( helix5 si/di unit) when not using the boat. I also use the hummingbird trolling motor transducer not the stock one that came with the unit. That was a recommendation from the folks on the electronics forum here at B.R.. Some extra wiring in the way sometimes, but totoally portable and can remove at anytime.

The trolling motor is a older motor guide Hyper-54lb, with a 45" shaft

hope this helps

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I'm sure this has been asked before. How would the bass raider work for a small 500 acre lake? Could me and my friend fit on the sun dolphin 8 foot 6 model? We probably would have like 400 pounds ish including gear.

In my opinion, 500 acres is starting to push it as size of lakes goes.  I know some folks put small outboards on bass raiders to be able to get to further locations, but these boats are really designed for ponds & electric only lakes.  Unless you are never going to venture too far from the ramp, you may want to consider another type of boat.

While the two of you could fit in an 8 ft model, I find those cramped.  Even though half the time I fish alone, I really like the 10 ft models better.  That extra 2 feet really makes a difference as far as feeling whether that you are right on top of the other angler, not to mention rod & tackle storage.

Thanks. I don't know, can you give me a reference as to how big 500 acres is, I just don't know. Also, how would a 35# trolling motor do on a 10e?

My home lake is a about 100 acres, but is spread out on about 350 acres of land because it is skinny in most parts.  The main lake is over 1/2 mile long with 11 coves that finger off from the main lake.  I would guess that a 500 acre lake is probably a couple of miles long, unless it is kind of bowl shaped.

I have a 46lb Motorguide with 5 forward speeds.  The lowest is a good slow speed that can keep the boat steady against a solid 10 mph wind.  The highest speed motors the boat pretty well, I cover that 1/2 mile in less than 5 minutes.  A 35lb would work, you just might feel like you are missing out on a top end speed or have to struggle a little more against blustery winds.

Thanks. Is there a tarp or something to store them without a trailer?

Mine is always on the water, at my dock, so I had a custom canvas waterproof cover made to keep it dry.  BPS makes a "one-size-fits-all" cover that will keep dust & condensation off, but it isn't waterproof and I actually had it fly off like Dorothy during a particularly windy storm.  If you store the boat where rain won't hit it & accumulate on the cover, the BPS cover is adequate.

Is the bps cover you have the pond boat one? It says boats up to 10 feet and the 10e is 10 feet 2 inches so was wondering if it's a problem

Also does anyone know some good places to buy used bass raiders? Looked on Craigslist but didn't really see anything near me.

Can anyone help with this?  I've got a die hard marine/deep cycle 29 series. 665 cca.  How long would you suppose it would run with my 50lb thrust TM?  10 foot raider

I have the exide dual purpose 29 series and I've yet to run it completely out.  I have a 28# thrust minnkota and also power a ff off of it. Longest trip has been 6 hrs off stop and go use.  hope this maybe helps a little...

Yes, that's the one.  It is designed for a 10 ft boat with the seats in, so if it comes up 2" short, you can swivel one or both of the seats in the other direction to gain some length.

Hi guys, new guy here. I'm looking at one of these boats for me and my son. He turned six this year and he loves fishing. I'm looking to fish inland lakes. I was wondering if I can get away with an eight footer? Or should I get the ten footer? There is one on sale for 575 near me. Thanks.

I always recommend a 10 footer for two adults to give each other more elbow room.  For an adult & a child, I would still recommend a 10 footer for the same reason.  No matter the size of the second person, the extra space of a 10 footer just helps with all of your gear.

Plus, with a 10 footer, if your son gets bored, there would probably be room for him to lie down & take a nap :D

Could a 10e fit inside of a Honda Odyssey?

Unlikely.

What's the cheapest way to transport them?

Will it fit in a standard Silverado?

Also, does anyone have any experience with a Bass Hound? Can you tell me how you like it?

I have the Basshound 9.4 and like it. It even has an aerared livewell. The 10.4 I think besides an extra foot in length has a more ergonomic layout/seating.

Have a Lowrance Elite 4x HDI on mine, it's prewired front and back for lights and also for trolling motor but wouldn't recommend a trolling motor over 30lb thrust on the stock wiring...the small gauge wire can't handle the amp draw and will melt the wiring/blow fuses. I just run my 50lb thrust straight to a battery then have a 2nd battery to run lights, livewell, and graph.

That goes for the Bass Raider 10e also. Been there, done that...

The factory wiring on the Pelican  is suitable for any 12 volt trolling motor! I run a 55 thrust minkota without 1 issue. With this being said, that's all I run on the factory wiring. For my Helix 5, I use a separate battery source.

I've tried to run a 55 minkota, a 52 motor guide (both not at the same time) and blew fuses at any setting beyond 3. Don't know but may have to investigate further...

Amazing what a little research does...

This from the MKota website...turns out breaker wasn't cutting the mustard. Although the stock wiring doesn't seem to be 6AWG, looks more like 10AWG to me but that's just a guess
