what are your CA carb/epa compliant outboard motor recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! I have been sitting on this old 1980's aluminum bass attacker  boat for sometime now and in need of a new motor. I live in califonria which has strict emissions laws on well, everything, so repairing  my current Johnson 75hp 2-stroke wont get it back on the water. Since I don't plan on buying a new boat, I figured replacing the motor with a new one is the way to go. I was thinking buying a 40hp merc or Yamaha. whats your recommendations? am i under estimating the recommended power output? if i am buying a new motor would i be better off buying a new boat off the lot? whats your take; 40hp not enough?

The boat should have a coast guard max hp rating stamp on it. I would max that out if you are able to.

And very possible that motor will cost you more than the boat and motor will be worth once you plop it in.  Get a quote and boat shop as well.

Might be cheaper to move to a more user friendly state !!
