a few years ago, I purchased one of the red Johnny Morris Platinum Signature Series cranking rods.  it has seen a lot of time on the water. in this short amount of time, the "rubber" handle of it has started to wear thin and come apart, fiber strands were fuzzy.  It's mainly where the palm of my hand rubs against it. as time went on and the more it got used, it became very smooth / dull, and not offering any grip at all.  it was happening on both sides of the handle, but the side you see below is the worst of it.

 

i took it back to bps today and showed them the issue, and they honored the 10 year warranty and replaced it free of charge. that made me happy

 

has anyone else had this same issue?  Is there a mild grip tape that you can cover it to avoid this from happening again? 

 

 

 

 

While not exactly the same, one of my favorite rods a CastAway Invicta with Winn grip has done the same thing.  I was amazed at how thin the Winn Grip material is and it’s just a regular black foam handle.  I know you can buy the Winn Grip wrap for golf clubs but I haven’t figured out how to glue it down and make it seamless.  

I had the same problem with the winn grip on my Patriot.At first they didn't want to cover it but I didn't put up with that. I am now back to using Jm Signature series with cork grips. Certain people's body oils and sweat tear up winn grips.im also using Dobyns Sierra Micro rods with cork grips.

i considered changing rods completely, but i couldn't pass up the free replacement of this $200 rod.

I wouldn't have either.i got a Jm with cork grips and had them credit me the difference. Screw that you worked hard for that money.I have a few rules about rods. Cork grips only. Fuji guides only. That have to be well balanced. They also have to be grey or black with flat finish.

To be fair, my CastAway rod was my dedicated Senko rod and we all know how much I fish a Senko.  I moved away from it because at 7ft, I wasn’t getting the hook sets on long casts that I wanted.  

The Winn rod tape is thick enough, has adhesive backing  and easy to install. I made swimbait rod foregrip using Winn Rod tape with good results.

Here is my Invicta with the Winn Grip worn off.  I may look at stripping the rest off and re-wrapping if it looks like it will work and not be too far from close to original. 

This gets around enough and say goodbye to winngrips .

Just checked the website - they don't name the guides on the Furys.

Sierra Trout and Panfish and the Kadens use Sea Guide's XO

Colt, Hyperlite and Maverick use Sea Guide's regular.

 

Every other line uses Fuji.

I called them to ask if they were specifically alconites
