Horny toads questions, how, when and where??? What size hooks? What about night fishing? Thanks for the reply’s 

Mine are relegated to buzzbaits.  I can't hook a bass on a toad.  I have hooked up more bowfin and snakeheads on toads than bass.  

Night. Weeds. 5/0 30 degree EWG with a screw lock. 50# braid, 8 speed reel, H MF rod. Works for me. The slower taper rod greatly increased my hook & land %.

As Choporoz mentioned, they're also great on a buzzbait.

I've run a toad with 4/0 ewg hook in shallows for a morning top water. I prefer black.  Caught several that way. I like to run it where is just barely breaking the surface, with some pauses, and sometimes I'll even kind of pop it for something different. To set the hook, I try to give them a couple seconds after the hit before I yank it hard... 

I use a horny toad on a 1/4 Jika rig and swim it  thru cover
