Quantum Smoke X

Featured Replies

Just curious what people’s thoughts are on these reels. I know they’ve been out for two years but I haven’t heard a sniff about them on here, I don’t know if they’ve just totally flown under the radar or what….. I own one of these reels and quite honestly don’t understand how there isn’t more praise for them….. for a reel that regularly goes on sale for 130-140$ Canadian I have a hard time finding a reel in that price point that is as good as this reel is, I’m not saying it’s the best reel by any means but for the price it really is a standout in my opinion….. just want to hear other peoples opinions

Are you talking about spinning or casting reels? I’m a huge fan of Quantum spinning reels. It’s the only brand of spinning reel I’ve owned for going on close to 40 years. I haven’t needed to replace a reel in a few years so my latest reels are early Smoke models that are still going strong. I just never have any issues with any of the Quantum reels I’ve owned.

I’m talking about the smoke x baitcaster reel, my mistake I should’ve pointed that out it’s the only quantum reel I own so it’s my only reference point for the brand also

The now discontinued Tour S3, the current Smoke S3, and the Smoke X are all essentially the same compact reel aside from weight differences due to material choices. Mine have been flawless and are high performance reels by any measure. They are excellent. Clean and oil the brake drum and spool bearings periodically and you're good to go.

Plenty of very good reels fly under the radar if they're not called Shimano or Daiwa, but that's just how it goes.

I tried but got a couple duds and a bit ripped off in the process

If lowering the brake dial below about 8 here is how my  Tour S3 and Smoke S3 sound this is on an easy cast the more effort the louder they got gets annoying real quick and yes its worse on a quiet lake in person

Listen closely at end you will here duck reply:cheesy:

@QUAKEnSHAKE, my TourS3 is the same.  Honestly, I stopped noticing 10 minutes into first trip out with it.  Unfortunately, one of my fishing partners HAS to try to mimic the sound, 'ZZZZZZZZZZZ'...every. single. cast.   Way more annoying than any reel noise

🤣😂🤣 yea I can relate to the fishing partner portion of the reply lol

I heard that they are about to dump a lot of money into rebuilding Quantum.

Quantum also uses Doyo made reels, correct? Not knocking them, just curious!

Up to this point they were Banax.

Quantum used to be made in Japan many years ago.. some of them.

Have the Tour S3 and the Smoke X. Love them both, particularly when you can get them for $125 or so on eBay. I’ve got em on saved alerts on eBay and will pull the trigger on a 3rd when it comes up in a 6:3 lefty. Nearly as good as my Shimano Curados for a lot less coin. Casts far and very easy to dial in.
