What would you do about this

Featured Replies

This tatula CT is out of warranty, it was my first ever baitcaster and the thumb button broke a while back. I still have the plastic piece that came off, I was thinking about gluing it back together when I disassemble the reel for cleaning. I think if I built up enough mass with some loctite gel control, a toothpick or two, and some NCF quick dry. But I could also see this going horribly wrong. Should I just sand the plastic down and get used to it?

Also, had some questions about cleaning reels-

1. Do you clean the drag washers? If so, how?

2. For shielded AR bearings, how would you clean/regrease?

3. I have cals universal star/reel grease, will this work for the main gear as well?

4. How would you clean the side plate of a Lews Tournament Pro? Centrifugal brakes not mag brakes. They finally shipped my spool, and I don't want to throw it into a dirty pepper grinder reel.

For all he charges, send it to dvt and be done with it.

For the cleaning or the thumb button? Would like to be doing my own cleaning, I plan on getting a small ultrasonic

The thumb button is just the plastic piece your thumb rests on - the clutch and the reel all still work fine it's just uncomfortable. If I could get the parts I could replace it myself but from what I hear getting parts from Daiwa as a consumer is a fool's errand

Not really if the part's in stock. Backorders can be sketchy though. Just call them in Cali and ask. I've ordered plenty of parts from them. It usually goes well.

Call Daiwa USA and order the thumb bar. You're going to open the reel, might as well do it right.

1. Do you clean the drag washers? If so, how? I clean them with 99% alcohol then press them into a lint free cloth. Don't do this for felt as it makes them swell.

2. For shielded AR bearings, how would you clean/regrease? Ive never taken these apart or seen the need to. On the older caged style, I would fully disasemble and give it wipe down with a q tip with a single drop of oil on it.

3. I have cals universal star/reel grease, will this work for the main gear as well? Yes

4. How would you clean the side plate of a Lews Tournament Pro? Centrifugal brakes not mag brakes. They finally shipped my spool, and I don't want to throw it into a dirty pepper grinder reel. Any smaller pieces like that, that I don't want to disassemble, I blow off with compressed air and then wipe down with a q tip or a small detail brush.

P.S. If you have the part # it'll go quickly.

I made it a habit in the guitar business to never call customer support without part numbers but a good reminder never hurts. Thanks!

all of the above. I guess you don’t have a hard water season where they are collecting dust. And I fully support diy in most aspects. I’m pretty handy myself. But my time is precious so I’ll send mine in as needed.

I'm broker than nick chubb's leg at the moment, furthermore I won't always necessarily have the ability to even take it to my local guy. thankfully I have the stuff I need with a few cheap (hopefully) exceptions, I'm just lacking in experience and knowledge. which is where y'all come in. I appreciate all the insight
