Welcome to SoCal.

Do you have a boat?

There isn’t a lot of decent fresh water bass fishing within an hours drive. My advice today is visit Anglers Marine near Anaheim and get to know the bass tackle salesman, some very good anglers! Kyle Grover the son of the owner is a top western pro.

Like Tom said, if you have a boat, there a few lakes in San Deigo south of you. If your a bank fisherman, there are a few city park lakes/ponds to fish, which get a lot of pressure. I've fished most if not all of them. Also, I would recommend that you go online and read the rules for catching game fish in Cali. I'll tell you this, it can be frustrating, until you figure out where the bass are, and what baits they prefer. Best of luck to ya, and welcome to Cali and BR.

In south orange county really the only legal place worth pursuing is Laguna Niguel Lake, I've caught a lot of bass out of that lake from shore. You can catch them a heck of a lot of ways there too. Outside of LNL there's some city park lakes around the county Laguna Lake(fullterton), Tri City, Craig, Ralph B clark, Huntington has central park and mile square, and Santa ana has a few ponds as well.

If you want to get on a bigger body of water I'd recommend the smaller SD lakes like Dixon, Wohlford, Murray, or Miramar. They're easier to fish than the bigger lakes from the rental boats and Wohlford is the only one with a bow mount trolling motor.

Should add the west has a weekly fishing news paper WON with fish reports for nearly every lake and give you some local ideas where to fish.

Turners Outdoors is another source for fishing information with several locations in OC.

Don’t over look the coastal ocean fishing lots places to along the OC coastline.

Our lakes north of OC in LA, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are having water quality issues.

San Diego county and city lake are renown for good bass fishing, 1 1/2+hr drive south. Again WON is helpful to determine where to go fishing.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

Unfortunately I don’t have a boat. Had a kayak in MA and had lots of ponds near me to fish. Left the kayak with a friend back there so I’ll be bank fishing for now.

I appreciate all the help!
