2 piece bass rods today limit what you find within your price point. SC Mojo Bass is being closed out and available within your budget and has 2 piece look no further.

Sakes are going on now!

I should've been more specific; when I said "I have access to a few ponds and river banks by car", I meant that I can take longer 1-piece rods (up to 8').

Both MHFM 70’ and MHF 7’1” Mojo Bass are $150 at TW and ALF*

*ALF offers 10% additional discount.

I'm surprised to see the Kaden recommended, and also that you're saying the Sierra 734 is a moving bait/treble hook choice. After reading a little, is that just because the Kaden has a slightly faster action? I was under the impression that the Sierra 734 could do all of the above tasks quite capably

The Sierra typically has a softer tip than other Dobyns lines which makes it great for moving baits. You can still fish soft plastics on them but they don’t have the ideal tip for jigs.

The Kaden has more tip than other Dobyns lines making them a better choice for jigs and TRigs.

I think both are generally Dobyns overall best value lines too, a worthy step up from

the Fury and not too inferior to the Champion XP.

Also I would wait for Tackle Warehouse’s Black Friday sales if you can.

@ohhey I should mention my kid has a last generation (purple) Mojo Bass Jig n bait rod that we replaced with the Marshall that I’m sure he’d sell to you for a good price if you’re interested. Not broken barely a scratch on it. He has the spinnerbait rod and the Marshall and Full Contact Finesse so he doesn’t really use it.

Well, the Mojo Bass rods are $120 at Bass Pro, Cabela's, and Scheels right now. Interestingly, though, I was snooping around ALF and picked up a couple Curado Ks for $150, and there is a discount on Dobyns Furys that's not being advertised, so I picked up a 735c for $104. One Curado will go on that rod (8.5:1) and one will go on this MHF rod (7.4:1). Thanks for the lead.

Couple other options for you....

Since you got the Mojo for $120, ... You could take that extra $30 from your $150 rod budget and pick up one of the 3 Kistler Heliums that ALF currently has listed for $189. I think they had a "Light Medium Heavy" and a "Heavy medium heavy" listed in excellent condition

Another option is ALF has a couple Ark Essence rods in their used section listed as Excellent condition, which usually means "Like new" for $144. I don't have an essence, but I do have a Tharp series Hammer that I really like. The Essence seems to be a little nicer setup with the same real seat except with cork.

I have a couple of those Mojo MHMF Spinnerbait models and I agree with your choice on that for the first option of WP90, small chatterbaits and squarebills. I use mine for all those things. I even had a 50" muskie pick up the tail hook of a OG Slim on that rod. Had to take my time, but that rod and the Zillion SV I was using on it did a fine job of working it in.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think any of those used options are really "calling to me" at those prices, but I appreciate the nonetheless. They also have a used 7'3 MHF Tatula Elite that I nearly pulled the trigger on last night, but I think the regular Tatula would be just fine for my needs and can be had significantly cheaper when on sale.

Some of your posts on that Mojo MHMF are part of the reason I'm convinced that it is a particularly excellent model even among the already good Mojo casting lineup. Do you still have the Zillion SV paired to it?

No,... I moved the Zillion SV to a St Croix Legend Glass cranking rod I picked up.

I have a bit of a problem with the Zillion brake dial where I bump it with my index finger while casting and accidently change the brake setting. For some reason the reel seat on the Legend Glass is shaped different and keeps my finger away from the brake knob.

I use a lefty and It has to do with how I palm the reel while casting. My index finger wraps around the bottom of the front and bumps the brake dial.

I move things around every once in a while and I think I have a nice old Daiwa TD Z 100ML throwing Whopper Plopper 90s on one of them and a old original TD Fuego with small spinnerbaits on the other one. That old silver and red Fuego looks pretty ugly on that purple Mojo, but they feel good together and it casts great!

In terms of freshwater gear, I currently have only 2 spinning setups, a 7' St Croix Premier 2-piece ultralight fast that I love and have had for a decade, and a 7'1 mojo bass 2-piece medium fast that's also great. I'm exclusively a bank fisherman and have the 2-piece rods for biking to the river, pond, brook, etc. with a small tackle backpack.

I have access to a few ponds and river banks by car, and would like to get a couple casting rigs during end-of-season/black friday sales to expand my available techniques.

I'm thinking both around 7':

  • One MH power MF or M action for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, lipless and square cranks, whopper plopper 90, some jerkbaits, etc.
  • One MH power F action for mid-weight texas rigs, weighted jigs, swimbaits, etc.

Can anyone provide some specific rod recommendations for these applications. Looking for bang for buck, generally searching in the $100-$150 price range. Already eyeballing the 7' MHMF Mojo Bass "Spinnerbait" model for the first application, so thoughts on it or similar rods are appreciated.

Thanks!

Easy. Daiwa Rebellions.

6’10 MH/Regulat for your movers

7’3 MH/Fast for TX rigs.

list is $199 but I’ve gotten them in the 150-170 range. Awesome blank, sharp looks, and a full guide train of Fuji SiC’s….can’t beat them and very sensitive, light, great actions

I actually discovered these in my searches but rarely see them recommended. Seems like these compete with Daiwa's own tatula elites but might be the better value. Thanks.

They are definitely a sleeper series…another good sleeper series are the Halo HFX rods. Grab a 15% discount code and those can be had for about 130 shipped each.

I am a dobyns fanboy, so take this with a grain of salt. With sale season coming up, you can probably get both of these rods for under $150.

Sierra 734 for moving baits and treble hook stuff

Kaden 744 for your jigs and t-rigs.

When do Dobyn's rods usually go on sale? I have access to 30% off sitewide, but wandering If i can find a better deal on another retailer before I try to grab a maverick using $20 in shipping and taxes.
