River guys, do you ever have trouble choosing between floats you’ve done well on and wanting to change it up and do a stretch you haven’t done in a while?

Featured Replies

In the smaller river I fish I am limited to only 4-5 stretches to choose from.  I have done better on some than others, but I get tired of beating the same stretches over and over and often want to break away and get a change of scenery by doing a float I haven’t done in a while.  However, I am always torn between this and sticking to the runs I have done better on.

I do struggle to stray sometimes. Other times it dependent on water levels. There’s also a lot of issues with me going to a completely new area  and punching a hole in my boat.

time is also another issue. How long does it take to get there and how long do I have to run to a spot.

It seems like the last few years I've ended up focusing on a different area each season.  Not even intentionally, but when I find a new area I tend to keep going back until I really figure it out.

I like to move around especially when the water is low.

Usually a matter of time and mood. If I have time and not feeling worn down from life I'll go exploring. Little time and/or feeling more casual, I'll usually hit up somewhere I know for bit to just relax.

For me it depends on water levels, how far I feel like driving and past experience.  The rivers near me change a lot with any substantial rain so while it may be the same stretch of river, it undoubtedly changes over the years so I approach it as a new stretch.

All the time!  That being said, I almost never regret exploring new water.
