Owner ST-35 Treble Hooks

Featured Replies

I use Owner ST-35 hooks on almost all of my crankbaits as soon as they come out of the package. Recently, the size 4 hooks have been out of stock for at least several weeks and Tackle Warehouse backorder date keeps backing up currently out to 3/1. Does anyone know why this size in particular is out of stock everywhere other than it being a very popular size?

Any recommendations for similar hooks? I am using these on squarebills and shallow cranks for the most part.

If it's size 2, or 6 - Barlows has them in stock

Just took a look there and when selecting size 4 they show out of stock. I don't really need them at the moment but just would rather have them now before next season rolls around here in March.

While I haven’t tried them all, am currently using and feel good about recommending, Mustad KVD 1X strong 2x short triple grip, Gamakatsu Short Shank Magic Eye and Owner Short Shank ST-35’s; all EWG of course.

Treble Hooks

A little more light reading on treble hook replacement.

Ya - that's the fun with TW's backorders...no idea if/when they'll get back in stock...and everything on an order that's backordered is held until everything is in stock.

Appreciate the recommendations! I have used the Magic Eye hooks before which is probably what I will do although while I'm experimenting again I might try out the Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW hooks.

Check out the Ryugi Pierce. Good hook. Not quite as strong as the Owners but sharp, well coated, and get the job done. I haven't had an issue with them, even with the size #12s.

These are what I choose when I want tiny hooks for like underspins. Crazy sharp. For normal sizes like 5 or 6 for jerkbaits I lean towards the Gamakatsu G Finesse, and for swimbaits I do like the Owner ST-35's because they come in big sizes, have that unique offset that helps them sit flatter against the bait, and are stupid sharp. There's a reason they come stock on the DRT Klash series. Only downside is they are brittle hooks, they will break before bending. But I've only had that happen once after it got lodged hard in the jaw of a 5lber and I snapped it with pliers getting it out.
