Jerkbait rod - Expride vs Phenix

Featured Replies

Currently tossing around a few rods for a jerkbait focused rod. Might also throw some blade baits/finesse jigs on it but jerkbaits are 90% the focus. I currently fish jerkbaits on an OG Daiwa Tatula which is a 7'2" MHR. It works well but the "snappiness" of the tip always felt a little off for jerkbait fishing.

The rods I'm currently considering are:

Shimano Expride

Phenix Feather

Phenix M1

Phenix Recon

I'd like to go with one of the Phenix rods but I could be persuaded to pull the trigger on the Expride. Anyone have any experience/recommendations with these? In terms of balance I will be pairing this with a Daiwa Alpha 800H, likely fishing braid to leader.

I don’t have hands on with their finished rods and I know you’re looking at casting rods but looking at their blanks, the M1 medium extra fast spinning is the blank I’d pick for a jerkbait rod.

I have a Phenix feather 6’ 10" M/H. I use it for a jerkbait and topwater set up. It fishes more like a Medium rated rod

I also have a feather 7’1 light for a bfs rod

7’3" Maxim H xf for frogs and jigs

Really like all three of the rods

Just picked this rod up at a local tackle shop black Friday sale. I've only had it out one day so far and used it as a vertical jigging spoon rod and was really impressed for the price.

Can't comment on any other Phenix rods for OP sorry.

My jerkbait rod of choice  is the old series Shimano Expride.
