And how is the Tournament better than the KVD?  What makes the Tournament MP $10 more?  The number of bearings are the same and the line capacity is the same. Is it just the double anodized spool?  Finally, what are "speed gears"?

Yes, the MP replaced the MB. It got upgraded to a fully supported pinion.

Marketing jargon. Hardened aluminum gear in the MP. The KVD has a brass main gear.

So it should be a hair lighter. And it looks better.kvd is 7.2 mp is 7.0

Hmm, going from brass main gear to aluminum main gear isn't good, IMO.  It may function better in some sense or make the reel a little lighter, but I like the solidity of brass (maybe I'm just old-fashioned).

It works. Magnesium and composite frames transmit gear noise more than aluminum frames but it can be done. I have 2 Lew's custom lites which are tanso tech composite with aluminum gears. They are smoother now then the day I bought them

Aluminum alloy is actually harder than brass. Locked drags, heavy braid and pulling snags is more likely the cause of damage than the material of a gear. 

Brass like aluminum comes several grades and hardness.

The primary reason for a brass gear is it doesn’t gal in fact leaded brass gear doesn’t need lubrication to reduce galling.

Aluminum on the other hand requires hardening treatments like hard coat or titanium nitrite and requires lubrication.

Todays precision cut aluminum gears are common in high end bait casting reels because of the weight savings, brass weighs more but is more forgiving.

The KVD is basically the LFS but in red

 

I have the LFS, MB, & MP; all 3 preform the same.

You're not going to see a huge advantage with these reels. Yes there's different breaking, gears, & weight. But in my opinion once dailed in they all perform pretty much the same.
