I have been out of the "boat" side of fishing for going on 10 years now. I currently fish out of a Hobie PA14. I would like to put a trolling motor on my kayak. All I have found that is geared towards us Kayak peeps is the Xi3 from Motor Guide. Spot lock, or something like that is a must if I am going to go through the process of mounting a trolling motor to my Kayak. I find it very hard to believe that Minn Kota does not have a 12 volt, remote controlled trolling motor with spot lock. Something that competes with the Xi3. In the past I have owned 2 Minn Kota Trolling motors. Both of them were tanks and never gave me an issue. I would like to try and stay with Minn Kota. Any recommendations?

I've been looking at them too, RLinNH. I'm pulling the trigger on the Xi3 70# 24V.  Here's a link to the closest I've found for a Minn Kota with spot lock. They also have the same motor in 24V 70# thrust.  54" shaft is long though.  You could maybe cut the shaft shorter.  But it would probably void any warranty.

Any of the ipilot motors have a remote control option. I don’t know which come with one or not.

that said, they are all fairly long shaft so the xi3 is the only good option.

I also have a PA14 and looked into putting a trolling motor on it and it can get pricey quick. The XI3 seemed to be the ticked but when you get the GPS version, the PA14 mounting plate, the quick release bracket, the wiring kit, the kit to release the motor and installation you are looking at around $2000.

Also, forgot the battery.....
