Josh VanderMeer Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 i was was looking at my rods the other day and i decided ill need to replace my line on my two rods before the bass season opens next year. my one rod... is a a baitcaster and the rod is 6'6 MH and i use that for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs etc... my other rod... is a spinnign rod the rod is 6'6 M and i use that for plastic stuff and stuff like that.... i was wondering wat would lines you would recomend for those uses for each of those rods.... Wat would work the most with wat i specificaly do with those rods.???? like as in actual brands and wat lbs test i should use, braid or mono, etc p.s i live in ontario canada where the fish are a little smaller in the states so i dont know if that makes a difference Quote
Fishin49er Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 With the spinnerbaits, jigs, and t-rigs I would use 17 or 20 lb, but thats a little heavy for the crankbaits (IMO). I would fish the crankbaits on the M rod and pair that with some 10 or 12 lb and this would also work good for weightless plastics. For brands I like Berkley Big Game and Silve Thread AN40. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 29, 2006 Super User Posted November 29, 2006 i use sufix braid for everything.use it in the same diameter as a mono line. Quote
GAMEOVER Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I agree with dodgeguy on this. The only thing I recommend different is the 20lb test instead of the 10lb. You can get away with 20 easy because of the smaller diameter and youll never break your line on a fish with it unless you tied a poor knot. I even used it when fishing for Salmon and Steelhead and if your familiar with those two species you know two things, they fight more and they get bigger then Bass. I have yet to have my line break on any fish while using Sufix Performance Braid. Braid isnt for everyone though and it requires some minor hardware adjustments (drag) to use with say crankbaits because it has zero stretch. The "Palomer Knot" is the knot youll want to use with this line over 90% of the time. I know your new here and welcome! But try to post this in the Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, Leaders, and Knots section of this forum for questions like this in the future. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 in your situation being in canada and using multiple apps for each rod, I would go with P-Line co-polymer on your rod that you jig crank and spinner bait- in 10lb test for that cold clear water in canada. I live in Idaho where the waters are deep cold and clear and it works well. I would line one of the rods with a 8lb flourocarbon for your plastics- it will help you get strikes in that super clear water you fish up there- I like segar invisx because it seems to be more forgiving in the reel/casting. Put those two lines on your rods respectively and that should cover your fishing needs- IMO. Do not spool the flourocarbon on til you are ready for fishing- if it stays on your reel all winter it will form to the spool hence memory and cause line twist- this is not a problem if it is used and is indestructable from the sun and temp. hope this helps Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 29, 2006 Super User Posted November 29, 2006 jetsprint2, Welcome aboard! My line suggestion today is the same as yesterday: Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 Baitcasting: " " " " " #12 I have never been broken off by a fish, using these lines. Quote
R Tilson Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 If your testing, I would recommend trying Hi-Seas White Lightning in 12# for the spinning outfit. It has the diameter of 10#, very little memory which makes it great for spinning applications, and it a co-polymer. I to would switch the crankbait over to the spinning outfit. For the baitcaster I would recommend the same line in 17#. Same reasons and it casts farther, plus the diameter is equal to most 14# lines. Quote
