rods for striper fishing

Featured Replies

Guys,

I'm thinking about retiring my first striper rod:  the Daiwa Beefstick.  It is way, way too heavy to be hauling around, especially if fishing for long hours.

So, can you guys give me some suggestions for an angler on the budget?  What if money wasn't an issue?

I'm doing freshwater striper fishing and using spinning gear.  If you have a reel suggestion as well, I'd be happy to hear it.

Thanks.

Well, mostly that's what I fish for March through September. My rod is a G.Loomis MBR844C. If that is out of your price range, I suggest a 7' Heavy Power/ Fast Action baitcasting rod.

schoolies or cows??

For stripers under 20 lbs or so, spinning, I use the BPS inshore rods.  Cheap and they get it done.  The rod fishes much like the extremes but with more backbone.  Not very eye appealing but....... They work

I have 2 with Pflueger Presidents and 2 with Penn 706's.  Both work but the Penn's can handle the salt much better.
