Have you noticed many lures’ listed weights are inaccurate?

Featured Replies

This lucky craft crank is listed as 1/2 oz, so I bought it and when I took it out of the package it felt light so I weighed it, barely .4 oz.

Is there a way to determine this without buying and opening them? It’s crazy to me that in a sport where lure weight is crucial to determining what setup and conditions to use them in that companies this big are not regulated with these specifications being accurate.

Crankbait weight seems far less 'critical'

when compared to size, profile and running depth.

Adjust your reel's casting settings, tune up your thumb and go to work.

Good Luck

@Ohioguy25, check to see what weight, in grams, is listed on the box.  Someone probably converted weights incorrectly for the label.  0.4 ounces is approximately 12 grams.  Lucky Craft is a Japanese company, so they probably use the metric system.

And we have a winner.  They are 12g baits.  I'm sure someone did the conversion correctly and said it was 0.42 ounce.  Then marketing said, "eh, close enough to 1/2 oz and the americans will understand better".

Some of this stuff is accurately rated in grams and when sold in the US on moon landing units they have to label it as a fraction of a ounce we are familiar with.  For some reason we have "1/4", "3/8", "1/2" and "5/8" oz class baits rather than accurate weights.  I assume it was easier for TW or whoever sold it to call it a 1/2 oz bait instead of 2/5 oz bait

It probably weighs about 0.5 ounces when it’s wet.  😉

It happens.  We have had a customer complain that there were only 4,998 BB's in his Daisy 5,000 BB carton.

I honestly have never weighed a lure.

This is the correct answer.

Being a chemist for the last 30 years, I’ve never understood why the US never converted to the metric system. English units are the worst and annoying. 😂 And this SNL skit really hits home for me. 🤣😂🤣
