Storing rods over a floor register?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have about 7 rods, and precious little space in which to store them. I want to build a rack (vertical) to store them in, but the only free space I have is a wall about 26" wide that is directly over the heat register. If i were to store them there, is there any danger from heat. Will the heat from that floor register be enough to damage my rods?

Thanks.

The rods?  No. If anything keeping them dry after a rainy trip is a good thing. Depending how hot they get it might make the grease in the reels more fluid and you have to lube them more. I’d keep an eye on non braided line too. Heat messes with plastics.

Thank you.

I run Copolymer and Monofilament. I tend to change my line regularly.

You could potentially put a plastic deflector on the heat vent (assuming forced hot air) that could channel the hot air away from the rods (yet still into the room)...this could avoid the heated air from blowing directly onto the rods/reels...I use a few of these deflectors and they work well

I keep rods in my garage which frequently hits 100+ in the summer and the rods, reels, and lines (braid, mono, fluoro) have no issues.

We all had vinyl records.

I had a rod rack directly over the floor vents for years, never had a problem.
