Loomis crankbait and spinnerbait series rods?

Featured Replies

I haven't seen much mention of these rods.  I noticed when looking in their catalog that he doesn't really mention what kind of blank they use, unless I missed it.  Are these good rods for the techniques they are listed for?  Thanks

I have the CBR843 crankbait rod and love it.  Great action and power and light weight.  I am not sure on the blank quality compared to GL3, IMX, etc but I have a feeling someone will be here shortly to answer that part.  :D

That was my main wondering.  For blank it just says "Crankbait" or "Spinnerbait" and was kind of wondering how they compare to other Loomis blanks.

Crankbait: moderate action ( whippy compared to the others )

Spinnerbait: Extra fast action ( stiff compared to the others )

GL2,GL3,IMX, GLX: fast action

For people that have used or knows someone who has used a array of Loomis rods.  Is there anything better than the Crankbait and Spinnerbait series to use for Crankbaits/Spinnerbaits(minus the GLX, they are just to dang expensive at this time.)  Thanks

Do you have to purchase GLoomis ?

Not really, many companies manufacture many types of rods, St Croix has two crankbait series rods, All Star has at least one, Shimano also has crankbait rods in it 's Crucial series, Kistler has crankbait rods in the Graphite series and those are cheaper than a GLoomis crankbait rod.

Are they better than GLoomis ?

I have no idea, never have fished with any of them, my experience is limited to GLoomis; I just purchased a Kistler Magnesium TS crankbait rod, I 'll post my experiences when I fish with it.

Gosh Raul,

Now you'll have to buy a new reel!

Its not a must.  But I was hoping to switch all my rods over to Loomis over time.

I made an 843 for myself last year and love it.  It handles the lighter crankbaits very well, and handles big fish very well.  I love it, and let my son use it, and he fell in love with it too.  I am now making one for him for Christmas/birthday present.

As I've mentioned before, if you cast a lot, for many hours a day, a stiff rod will kill you.  The softer action of the 843 will load well and throw a long way, is still quite sensitive, and at the end of the day, your arm will feel so much better not having been stressed by the old "broomsticks" that came in with the typical graphite.

If you will be throwing mostly lures heavier than about 1/2 ounce, go up to the next stiffer crankbait rod.

Yes , they are expensive, but they are really wonderful rods.

My 843 is exceptionally light, actually the lightest rod I've ever built.  It needs, and has, a light casting reel.

You asked what they are made of-Loomis says they are blends of graphite to meet specific technique requirements.  Based on price and weight, I would say they are close to their IMX, but have no solid info.
