Looking for a "Burner" reel, which one???

Featured Replies

Im thinking hard on a burner reel for flipping and pitching, Ive pretty much narrowed it down to 2 reels but if you suggest something different, Im all ears ;)

Im thinking the Revo SXHS or the Pflueger Summit LP.  Im really leaning towards the Summit.  Tell me what you think, any experiance you have with these reels.

Thanks

Your only choice would be the Revo.  The Summit has the same IPT as the President, so it is not a "burner" reel.  The 7.1:1 gear ratio is only there to trick the consumer.

Thanks all

Happy Holidays!

Consider the TD Zillion TDZLN100SHA 7.1:1 GR, 31.6 IPC

I've got 2 Revo STX burners and they are SWEET!

If it were me I would get a Shimano Castasic. It is designed for pitching & flipping. It does not have the 7.1:1 gear ratio but is plenty fast enought. just my .02 worth.

I just got the Quantum Energy PT baitcaster "Burner".

I hope it works as great as it feels.  It will be collecting dust for the next 3 months.

I just  received the Pfluger Summit for Christmas. I asked for it due to the weight of the reel (that was in my price range). I read reports and held both the Revo and Summit. Both are "really" nice reels. But it came down to the weight. The Summit is lighter, now I need to find the lightest Flippin' stick in my price range. When your holding a flippin stick for 6 hours straight, weight becomes an issue.

Flippin, did you get the wide spool or the regular spool Summit?  I read that the wide spool brings in 30" IPC's where the regular spool is only 28" IPC's.

My friend has two REVOs and he loves them.

They are the silver models that cost $200 each and not the black model for $150.

I use a 7:1 Curado and I love it.

However, I may get that $200 REVO as it is a "sweet" reel and is one of the highest rated burner baitcasters in the current FLW magazine.

Get a copy of the FLW magazine and see what they say about five of the high retrieve reels.

You can't go wrong with that REVO.

TI_bassin, My Summit is the narrow / smaller of the two. It will be paired with a Kistler 7'8 Magnesium  TS heavy action "all day" flippin' stick. I was more concerned about the total weight (again, that fit my price range). I have yet to pick the line brand, test or type for the rig.

The worst part is Fivebasslimit PM'd me right after I placed the order for the Kistler..........looks like he's got a line on some really nice rods too.
