While heartbroken is a bit strong, I'm quite upset that an angry Bowfin broke the tip off of my from Japan Shimano Expride 265 UL+ tip. 

 

These are micro guides, and the rod blank of the tip on the broken end is .057" (1.45 mm) diameter. 

 

As for the guide, the inside diameter is .095" (2.4 mm)

 

I realize that the rod will no longer be "the same" after a repair. 

 

What are my options here for a DIY repair? 

 

I'm a totally newb and totally clueless on rod repair.

I would almost be tempted to just put on tip...the old tip may just fit.

0.057" = 3.5/64 so size 4 tube will be fine.

I have some old Fuji tips (model MCAT I think) with a 2.2mm ID ring but don't know if available any more.

 

CRB LZR tips in size 4 have a 2.5mm ID ring so PLZT-4-4 from Mud Hole.

 

Easy to replace with tip top hot melt glue or just plain 5-minute epoxy.

Cut the thread off the tip top, heat it while you pull the broke tip out, let it cool than see if it will fit on the rod.

There appears to be a clear, hard epoxy over the thread.

Epoxy finish isn't very hard, cuts off easy with a razor blade, sharp knife blade or exacto knife. There are however other finishes being used now, still it can be done fairly easily.

Those tips are typically glued on with the brown hot melt glue. (the brown is a little stronger than the white).

Melt the tip of the stick...pull off a bit with your finger. (It will be hot but not terribly hot to burn).
I would roll it in my fingers to make it small enough to fit into the tip.
Heat the tip and install it.

You could also just heat the glue stick and apply it to the blank...but be careful heating the glue on the blank.
I would venture to guess that everyone on the rodbuilding threads has bricked a rod or two with too much heat.
 

Try to salvage the tip top and reinstall it or buy a replacement. Some local tackle shops will do a tip top replacement if you’re hesitant to diy.
