  1. Fore grip and rear grip replaced . . . reel seat and threadwrap intact.
  2. Find a local shop to repair it by putting on a new tip and replacing the mashed guide. It will be fishable. Give it to someone just starting out if you won't use it.
  3. From a cost point the kit is a value and it includes blanks that give a reasonable length I tried the handle on a spinning rod . . . Pros: It looked pretty good and is lightweight Cons: Handle is too long for me, handle diameter is too small for me, hole in front is way too big, had a 7' blank in mind and had to cut to get final length wanted because the blank is arbored/glued into the front of the reel seat. I never even wrapped guides, just gave it away to another rod builder.
  4. That is a solid starting place. For the same price you can take their online class which includes the materials in the kit minus the alcohol burner. Class has cork grips and choice of casting or spinning rod.
  5. Not a solution but something to beware of . . . I tried a temporary extension using a piece of blank as an internal sleeve pressed in tightly but without glue. After a little use the insert seemed to get loose but it actually split the butt of the original rod under the grip.
  6. Use full rear grips not split. If cork, a couple burl rings at the butt.
  7. So it doesn't need to be coated with epoxy? What type of adhesive holds it to the blank?
  8. I've used tungsten bullet weights with epoxy but not putty. Serch for some older posts about pros and cons of balancing and ways of doing it.
  9. Look at the Sea Guide guides on rodbuilderswarehouse.com Batson/Forecast for some reel seats. Spinning or casting?
  10. Best hook keeper ever is frame of first or second guide 😁
  11. I have done many as well! It is amazing how many people want a broken rod repaired.
  12. Could you cut off the rod at the front of the grip you want to save and then use an internal sleeve through the grip to connect to another blank?
  13. I handled many of the new Point Blank models at the Angler's Resource rod building event last weekend. Very nice and looking forward to availability! Was not able to compare side by side with old version. Number of blank models is doubling with light and ultra-light in various lengths. The folks at Anglers Resource are very pleased with prototype performance. Hope we will be able to afford them 😀.
  14. If you like the current versions, a couple of suppliers have existing stock closeout priced at $100 per blank with limited inventory.
  15. Is that from cork blocks or strips? Looks terrific!!!
  16. It can certainly be done but getting cork to fit well if it is installed from the butt can be tricky, especially the front grip. Good luck! You do not need the dryer clutch. Epoxy adhesive for the parts is not the same as epoxy thread coating. You need both.
  17. What is wrong with the handles and reelseats that they need replaced? Are you planning to replace those parts from the bottom of the rod?
  18. You should be able to wipe/rub it clean with a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol.
  19. Monofilament uniknot loop. This was the smallest guide I could find, size 2 runner.
  20. I've built several and they are fine . . . 1. Real good prices when on sale 2. May take a few weeks to receive an order rather than a few days 3. They are hard to compare to one another using the manufacturer line/lure and power/action ratings (CCS helps)
  21. In general there is no coating you can use to repair, a break needs either internal or external sleeve reinforcement (or both). The damaged area looks at least a few inches long and I would not even try to fix it.
  22. Pros: less weight including finish and better line control with braid Cons: may need more to keep line off the blank, may hinder line flow with mono/fluoro, may ice or clog from stuff in water, and my favorite, hard to run line through in low light conditions!
