Double Uni or Alberto Knot for Leader Knot ?

I convinced myself years ago that a longer (1/2"+) PE tag = a more trustworthy knot.

I can tie a double uni knot very easily so I use that. Has never failed me. But it's fatter through the guides, no doubt about it.

I tried the Alberto for a couple months but had two unravel on me. Obviously I did something wrong. I swore I put the braid "back thru the same way it entered" but alas it came undone.

I'll give it another go. It is thinner which is nice.

I agree, it can happen... swear I did the right way then it pulls out. I found the way to safeguard against this is to go through the loop at the end twice and it has never failed me. There is a video out there that shows going back through the loop 3 times, but 2 has always worked for me and its thinner going through the guides.  Highly recommend 👍

I agree with Tom - the Lefty Kreh knot is VERY easy to tie and very strong.

I’ve always used the FG. When tied right, it’s 100% strong and very thin. Easy to tie on the water too. Lots of love for the Alberto on this thread tho, might have to try it just for fun.

I don’t see how it can get any easier.  I think the one thing that bothers some (and I’m not sure why) is that you have to precut the leader to length, as you have to pull the main line tag end and the entire leader through the loop.

I cut about 9’ and end up with an 8’ or so leader. In 30 seconds.

Pretty good video on YouTube testing leader knots.

I started with the Alberto and never had a reason to change.

Each time I snag the knot at the hook is always the weakest link leaving behind leader to retie.

Same here.

Tying an Alberto with 10# braid to a fluorocarbon leader with my arthritic fingers is like driving a nail with a paint brush.y’all can have it

I've got bad arthritis also.  You might try this:  https://www.albertoknot.com/

It works well for me.  I'm still new with this and have to get the instructions out but I've tied maybe 10 knots with it and none have failed.

I started using the Red Phillips Knot. For me wasy to tie and goes through the micro guides.
