Hello. I have river2sea whopper plopper 60 size 1/4oz, I wonder if I can put it on my Daiwa Procyon 5’6 ultralight which it has rod weight rating is 1/8 - 1/32 oz? Thanks you

Uh - no....I have the 7'0" Procyon Light-Fast, and I wouldn't toss my Plopper 60s on even that. You want a Medium power at least despite the lure weight recommendations.

 

That ultralight is for chasing trout and panfish with micro-jigs weighing no more than 1/16oz plus the plastic 'bait'. It's not made for cranking for bass.

While I completely agree with @MN Fisher, I'm also of the attitude that you make do with what you've got. I've definitely thrown super heavy baits on ultralight gear. And caught fish with it. It won't work quite as well, and will be harder to handle the fish and fish the bait, but it can be done. A 60 size WP on that tiny ultralight is definitely pushing the limits, though. 😅

I have caught hundreds of bass with Whopper Plopper, sometimes two at a time, and always with 7' 1" or 7' 2" MH rods. You do bass no favors by playing them too long on whippy rods.

It isn't really a thing, IMO.

 

All I fish is "whippy" rods and even the largest of fish take no more than 30 seconds or so to get in. Though I am an expert with light tackle.

 

As with all things, YMMV.

Pick the right tool for the job.

Will Channel locks remove a nut? sometimes yes.

But the better tool would be a box end wrench or socket.

 

 

The real question isn't weather it will work, anything will work, you can fish a Whopper Plopper with a soda bottle wrapped in line.  You have to decide if you want work that hard or would it be better to buy a more suitable rod.

Exactly and a whopper plopper is NEVER the right tool
