Super User A-Jay Posted September 5 Super User Share Posted September 5 On the water early again this morning. Had a pretty sunrise but the topwater bite never materialized. The September Wind started to blow, accompanied by the dreaded Blue bird skies both can make Lake Menderchuck a tough nut to crack. Water was super clear and still registering surface water temps of 70 degrees. Haven't been here in a bit but would have expected it to have cooled off a bit more by now. Was banking on the pre frontal conditions to get the bigger brown bass in an eating mood. Not exactly how it played out for me today. Besides taking me more than the morning to find any decent biters, the few I did poke were middle of the road trophies in training. Located some bass on bait (perch) at the very bottom of a weed line in front of a point. Bites came on the 1/2 oz Jackhammer / Zako combo down in about 10 feet. Going to need some true coldness before I try that one again. With the lake pretty low and the wind cranking, getting the Lund back on the trailer is always an adventure too. Good Times. Calendar might say fall but the weather is definitely summer. I am seeing mostly 80’s here next week too. Could be a while before true fall arrives.

Which is just a dirty trick because we both know the inevitable 40 degree drop is only a week or so after that. Not much of an acclimation period sadly. Either way, I hope the LAKES ALL freeze over early. Followed by ametric ton of snow and it stays thAT way until MAY ! A-Jay

pdxfisher
That was a really nice fish! Catching one like that on a tough day sure helps make the day feel different! Nice thing about the kayak is that it is just as easy for me to pull it up the ramp on a windy day as it is on a calm one
Super User ol'crickety Posted September 7 Super User Share Posted September 7 That's windy, for sure, Andy. 19 hours ago, pdxfisher said: Nice thing about the kayak is that it is just as easy for me to pull it up the ramp on a windy day as it is on a calm one One October evening, I had to beach my kayak on the windblown side of Lake Winnibigoshish in northern Minnesota. The waves were breaking, but I was young and nimble. Still, it took all my youth to come ashore. Today, the same challenge would have a different, sad ending.
