Mojo Bass Rod Type

Featured Replies

I just bought a mojo bass trigon rod at a sale for a very good price. When I got home I saw that it said cranking on the side in small letters. I thought I was buying the all around rod, not a technique specific or glass rod. Does it just say cranking and is still a good all around rod, or is it technique specific. I can send a picture if needed.

The model number would help - it'll be a series of letters and numbers starting with 'JOC'

What gave you the impression that it was an all around use rod?

The Mojo line has, if I counted correctly, 21 different models. It could be said that those models are unique but I'm sure there are many that could be used for multiple techniques.

If you purchased a glass rod for crankbaits, it's probably going to be geared towards crankbaits but you can try it with whatever and see how it goes.

In general, a 7' MH Fast is a good multi purpose rod. Again, the model number on your rod would help.

Although I’ve not handled a whole lot of the new Mojo lineup I’m inclined to agree with @FishTank and say unless it’s a “glass” crank bait specific rod which I believe is green in color compared to the dark red/purple try out what you had in mind and see if you like it. One of my favorite rods is a Eagle Claw rod that has “crank bait/spinnerbait” stamped on it and I used it for just about anything you can think of in its weight range when it was the only rod I had, I like it so much I bought a Okuma with a mod-fast action as an upgrade and love the rod for appropriately sized chatter baits, swim jigs and if it’s my only option shallow crank baits/squarebills.

It should say more than just cranker.  There are 4 cranking rods in the series.  Can't tell you how universal of a rod it will be without knowing which specific model you have.

Thanks for all the help. The model number is JOC72MHMF

My camera is not working, but under the mojo bass logo on the rod it says finesse carbon cranker

Oh - MH/MF can be a cranking stick, especially squarebills and lipless - but the MF action is also very useful for spinner/chatterbaits, Light to Moderate cover pitching/flipping, moving topwaters like Whopper Ploppers/Choppos and small hard swimbaits like the Bucca Baby Bull Shad, Baby Bull Gill and Baby Bull Rat.

I wouldn't use it for jigs, T/C rigs or anything else requiring quick actions like jerkbaits/spooks, but it's a fairly versatile rod.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was hoping for. Would it also work for weighted plastic swimbaits, and hard plastic swimbaits/glide baits

thanks a lot

Weighted plastic swimbaits (paddletail on a jig-head?) I classify as 'jigs'...so no

Hard swim/glidebaits - I think I answered that - the Bucca Baby line is just that. So long as the lure weight is in (or close to) the guideline of the rod, you should be okay. If it says 3/4oz max...1oz isn't out of the question, just don't try to cast it into the next county....1.5oz would be out of the question.
