I have had good luck with Fenwick Eagle GT rods.  Usually around $50-60.

just in case someone misunderstands, I am talking about a baitcast rod

if u have a cabelas or bass pro shop in ur area i would hit them up

they have so pretty good rods on sale

u have to go there in they dont post any sales on the internet

for example i went to cabelas and got a shimano compre rod for 30 bucks there usally tiwice as much

i also got a team diawa rod for 25 bucks

Try the Berkley Series One or the Lightnin' Rod Pro Series.  I'm seriously looking around for the Series One Flippin' Stick ($69)

If your local shop buys through American Rod and Gun, then they can get the BPS XPS series of rods.  They are IM-8, and sell for $29.99.  I don't have any of their baitcastering rods myself, know a few guys who do.  They have the 'hump' that is typical of BPS rods.  I do have a couple of spinning rods and don't have any issues with those.  For a very economically priced rod, they aren't bad.

Bass Pro Shops  Bionic Blade Rods are pretty good rods for the money, and they are currently on sale right now for $59.99. Check out BPS website, these rods have an average rating of 4.8 out of 5.0 with 22 reveiws. Read the reveiws there are some pretty good words said about these rods. I had one a few years back and it was an excellent rod. I now use BPS Extreme rods.

I will second the Fenwick Eagle GT.  Best rod under $60 you will ever buy.

With regard to really functional low-end blanks, "Bionic Blade" immediately comes to mind.

Over the years I've accumulated a number of bionic blades as knockaround rods and backups,

but they hold their own against rods costing twice the price.

I third the Fenwick Eagle GT great rods and the Walmart by us the Fenwick Venturas, which they discontinued on sale for 39 bucks thats not a bad deal either

I second the motion, Bionic Blades are tough to beat in that price range when they are on sale.

I am a Falcon man myself.  But if you want the best rod for around 60 or under look at a Shimano Convergence.  They are decent and they come with a lifetime over the counter warranty.  If you ever break one you dont have to have your reciept and you can swap it out at any dealer that carries Shimano rods.

Matthewj is right. If you go to Cabela's, hit up the Bargain Cave. Be careful when you buy something from back there because sometimes it can be broken, but it is possible to get a great deal. I've seen Kislters and St. Croixs back there for under $60. Actually, I got a great deal there the other day on a G. Loomis GLX  7'11" flippin' stick for $200. A lot of money, but a steal for that particular Loomis.
