I picked up a crippled Shimano Curado CU200B off of eBay.  The seller said he was fishing it and it just "locked up" out of the blue and he quit fishing it then and there.    

 

I received it today and naturally started playing with it.   I backed off on the drag and was able to turn the handle.  The spool would revolve but there was a distinct "lump" that occurred in the retrieve once per revolution of the reel handle. 

 

Pulling it apart, I finally noticed a small spring wedged onto the line guide idle gear.   It would rotate through the two gears which would produce the "lump" in the retrieve cycle.   I removed it and all is well. 

 

However, for the life of me, I don't know what this little spring is.   I cannot find it in the parts diagram.   

 

Not very good pics, I know.   It's a tiny and very thin wire spring.   

 

 

 

looks like part number 1133. One of the yoke springs for the pinion gear. They usually pop out easy when opening reels up

This spring is shorter and much finer wire.  Both yoke springs were in place when I opened it up.   

I have 2 of those reels,  left hand.

Doesn't look like a spring from that reel. There is only the 2 yoke springs and the clutch spring. If the reel works correctly,  you're good!! Nice find! Mine are about 25 years old and are still use them. Great for crankbaits!

Thanks!  It does seem to operate normally.   I haven't fished it though.    

 

I like to tinker with stuff and thought this would be a good winter project.  30 minutes later, it was running.   

 

It will probably see duty tossing spoons for pike if I keep it.   I have several other curados of various vintages, which I love.   

It almost looks like the spring that goes to the turn key that opens the side plate. Does it open and close properly?  I wonder if the reel was worked on before and it somehow got dropped into the reel. 

The 200b's also have a spring under the spool tension cap that's sort of cone shaped and another under the star drag dial. Could be that one. Part no. 1106 

The spring is teeny weeny very thin wire doodad.   In its' original form I'd say it's no longer than 1/4" long and about 1/8" in diameter.   All other springs are in place on the reel.  

 

I'm just curious at this point.   The reel appears to function as designed.
