Eppinger or Apex
I have never used an Apex spoon. I assume they are stamped out of brass like the good ol’ Daredevles are. Steel spoons don’t have quite the right action IMHO. And they don’t cast as well (less sectional density). I ounce Daredevles can be cast about 5 miles with a slight tailwind. Get some of each and see what you and the pike like best.

Cold weather/waterproof gloves - recommendations
I never did find gloves that worked for me on my Fall Muskie trips to LOTW. I cheated by putting a small propane heater in the boat so we could warm up our hands periodically. Bulky gloves just don’t work when casting. Thin gloves get wet and useless.

2024 Catches of the Year
My best pike this year from a late May trip to LOTW. 35” on a light spinning rod. The fish was taken on an old wooden perch Lazy Ike. I was feeling nostalgic that day. She/he was an exceptionally ornery pike.

2024 Catches of the Year
I have yet to find any fish that read the same books that I do. 😄

Hopefully yet another foray to the Ontario side of Lake of The Woods.- Signing in with a Display Name
I’m glad I found this thread! I am in the process of setting up an Apple iPad Pro. I simply could NOT get the dang thing to log into the forum even after repeated attempts. My Chromebook would log in with no issues as usual. Once I updated my login credentials on the iPad to use my email address vs my user name, PRESTO! Both devices log in as expected. The Chromebook has been changed as well.NETim changed their profile photo- Your Favorite Nylon Mono?
Okay. After reading this and other threads here, I am going to trial Berkley 10lb BG on my small fleet of Shimano Curados of various vintages.- Mystery Shimano Curado Part.... CU-200B?
Huh. I would have guessed it went under the metal disc. Metal on metal contact. Huh. Thanks!!!NETim started following Mystery Shimano Curado Part.... CU-200B?- Mystery Shimano Curado Part.... CU-200B?
I lucked into a box of Curado reel parts, which came to me marked as "Curado 200B". There are many little parts in it, some of which I recognize. However, this little black felt doodad eludes me. Attached is a pic of the mystery part alongside a spool tension cap for size reference. The little doodad appears to me to be the same diameter as the copper disc inside the spool tension knob. It is very thin and very flexible. Not sure what material it is constructed of, but again it's very thin and very flexible. A spacer that goes under the copper piece inside the spool tension cap? There are other similar pieces in the box which are larger in diameter but again I don't know what they are either. Thanks!- Do you plug your ICE engine vehicles block heater in overnight or only a few hours before use?
I have a magnetic oil pan heater that works well for warming up the oil in the engine of my Ram when needed. I have it on a heavy duty timer set to kick on a few hours before I think I'll need the truck. I'm retired though, so seldom do I need to drive it on cold days.- Christmas Music, what's y'all's favorite
Just about anything done by Mannheim Steamroller. All time favorite? "The Christmas Song" as done by the great Nat King Cole.- This Old Reel
The spring is teeny weeny very thin wire doodad. In its' original form I'd say it's no longer than 1/4" long and about 1/8" in diameter. All other springs are in place on the reel. I'm just curious at this point. The reel appears to function as designed. Thanks all!- This Old Reel
Thanks! It does seem to operate normally. I haven't fished it though. I like to tinker with stuff and thought this would be a good winter project. 30 minutes later, it was running. It will probably see duty tossing spoons for pike if I keep it. I have several other curados of various vintages, which I love. - 2025 plans
