Expride Rod Tip Failure Help

Featured Replies

I had a rather peculiar rod failure on my Shimano Expride 264UL-2 piece  As you can see in the photos, the failure occurred where the solid tip meets the hollow blank; roughly 18". Having owned many Exprides, this is the first such failure I've seen. I believe this to be, perhaps, a defect.

However, my warranty period is done. I'd like to be able to purchase just the 2nd piece since the rod is in fine condition otherwise. Seems as shame to trash this otherwise wonderful rod just because the solid tip failure. And should a 264 tip not be available, I think most any Expride UL 2nd piece could put this rod back into use.

This rod does have some sentimental value as It's the first rod my wife had bought for me.

What does the collective think?

Have you contacted Shimano to see if you can purchase just the tip section?

I don't know how it is with Shimano, but i've had the same thing happen with a 4pc rod from Megabass, and they didn't allow me to purchase just the tip, which sucks. My love toward the company was lowered by 15% that day😭

I believe that they/Shimano build the rods as a unit with top and bottom sections mated together in the manufacturing process. That prevents them from selling either tops or bottoms separate. I know that's not the answer you want to hear.  I hope you can get it repaired or replaced.

Good luck,

I’d contact them, there is no harm in doing so however in my opinion the rod is garbage.. keep it as a reminder of what a nice wife you have.

Should be able to get it replaced through the express program and get a new one for 1/2 off. Not sure if that works for JDM rods though assuming that is one

I have never seen 2 piece Exprides in the US market.  Some in Europe and elsewhere.  Makes it more complicated.
