Rod For My New Steez

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I am in the market for a casting rod for my new Steez reel. I am looking for a split grip rod that can be used for multi purposes. After hearing a lot of positive talk about Powell Rods, I am strongly considering their Max casting rod. Would you recommend this rod for the Steez? Their Med-Heavy rod has a line limit of 17 lbs. All of my Med-heavy rods have a limit of 20 lbs. I like the feel of a Med-Heavy rod, but was wondering if I should get the heavy instead. Is their Med-Heavy equivelent to a Medium power rod?

Any info. you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Here are the rod spec's.

Powell 683 C Ex-Fast - Senkos, jigs, flukes, texas rigs, spinnerbait.  6'8" Med-Heavy Ex-Fast Action, 10-17 lb. Test 1/4-3/4 oz.

Powell 684 C Ex-Fast - Jigs, texas rigs, big senkos, spinnerbaits and swimbaits.  6'8" Heavy Ex-Fast Action, 12-20 lb. Test 1/4-1 oz.

any of those would be good or I would go with a kistler- I just got a magnesium and it is very nice especially for the price.  I is as light as a glx and has been getting very good reviews.

Try the Steez rods.  They are insanely light and you will not find a  better matching rod.

I would personally go with the 683 Medium Heavy.  Unless you are fishing extremely heavy cover, you can use a MH for most all applications.  I throw 1/2 oz jigs, t-rigged plastics, etc. on my MH Techna AV and I've had no problems making fish do what I want most of the time.  I have a heavy flipping stick that I use for heavy grass, and the really nasty stuff, but for everything else I use a MH.

I agree with Hawgin as respects the MH.

BTW, Great reel.....enjoy it.

Shadcranker is a good buddy of mine and is a big fan of Powell rods. He says thats all he's going to get from here on out. You might want to check with him on these as he is using them.

Go with the 683; I have it, and it's awesome for the $, or regardless of the money.

Lifetime warranty, extremely light, and very sweet.

Hey Risk, get to work pal.

jetsprint2,

Do you have a link to the actual weights or some comparisons with like GLX models?  This claim has been made a few times but never substantiated.  I'd sure like to see the published weights, I'm sure other would also.

Thanks guys, I have the Helium LTA matched up with my Chronarch 50mg. Tackletour.com speaks very highly of the Powell rods, and they rate it slightly higher than the Helium Magnesium 9.17 - 9.28 plus editors choice. I have played around with the Helium Magnesium and think I prefer the Powell.

Also, I think the Stez rod is out of my price range.  Ibought the Steez reel for $250 after Gift cards and store credit and my wife would kill me if I spend that kind of money on the Steez rod.

Thanks for the imput guys.

Good luck!  Heck for $250 with your certificates you stole that reel!
