This is Not Good ~

Came out today.

DNR ice storm cleanup updates: State parks, trails, campgrounds and boating access sites

Following severe ice storms in northern Michigan, Department of Natural Resources staff members are assessing damage and conducting cleanup at several state parks, state park campgrounds, state forest campgrounds, boating access sites and state-managed trails.

DNR crews are also collaborating with local agencies and utility companies to clear debris, prioritize the restoration of essential services and ensure access to critical infrastructure. Much of the work is being coordinated with the Michigan Army National Guard.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a 12-county disaster area last week, which includes Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Mackinac, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle counties.

As a result, the DNR temporarily closed several state parks, state park campgrounds, state forest campgrounds, boating access sites and state-managed trails until safe access can be restored, including hazardous tree assessment and removal.

  • Took my first 'official' recon ride over to local Lake Menderchuck this morning.  Just to see. Well despite the total Zero access to anything close to the water, there's actually a slither o

  • So does that mean lots of yellow ice ?  🤓 A-Jay

  • Just spent the better part of the late morning and early afternoon performing some much needed snow removal operations. Super windy but air temps were almost 30 which was nice. All &amp

Thats a tough pill to swallow given that your best fishing of the season is often in April.

But I can understand the safety aspect and prioritization involved too.  Restoring power for infrastructure is more important than clearing trees from a boat access site.

Is the old town canoe an option?

Yeah, that sucks.  Are all of your lakes state park lakes?  Any corps of engineers or ‘other’ lakes?

Thanks and you're right but May has been decent at times.

So I'm might have to bank on that

The Old Town is an option, but only on smaller waters

which are all DNR launch sites and mostly even more remote and anywhere the Lund would go.

They might be 'open' but I'd still be backing a my own chain saw and tow straps to get into them.

Fish are smaller to which doesn't make the effort seem worth it.

There isn’t a dislike button, so I’ll just say it.  Heavy dislike.

Well, it's Official.

As of 10 AM this morning, Local Lake Menderchuck is Open Water.

So I was 3 days off on my guess this years, well, it was really Tank's guess.

Daily I've been working to get our property back together

#longprocess, as well as making the final preparations to my fishing deal.

State parks and all DNR boating access points up here are all still closed

which now becomes a serious bummer.

The clock is really ticking on that pre spawn brown bass bite.

The sooner these places open combined with some fisherman friendly weather,

the happier I'll be.

Either way, that pretty much puts the wraps on this one for another year.

Certainly hope to see you all here next time around.

Thanks for playing.
