Which drop-shot setup?

Featured Replies

A.  6’6 Medium-Heavy with a size 1 VMC Redline Neko Hook texas rigged and a 1/4 oz tungsten teardrop

B. 6’6 Medium-Fast with a size 2 VMC Drop-Shot hook with a 1/8 oz tungsten teardrop..

I guess the biggest difference I’m asking is do you all prefer to texas rig your drop-shots or nose hook them?

I use a #1 wide gap mustad hook, similar to a trout hook.

Therefore a med-light works great to keep them pinned, nose hooked.

Same hook used to nose hook flukes.original_f9df3b11-79db-4527-b13a-34d204dcafc7_PXL_20220526_2059129072.jpg.d00897b5fef6fea39d085f2142123e84.jpg

#1 Octopus hook for nose hooking, #2 Worm Hook for T-Rigging finesse worms

Medium-Light rod with a 1000 size reel, 6# Sufix 832 to 4# or 6# InvizX

1/16oz or 1/8oz teardrop or 'pencil' weight.

Drop-Shot is a finesse presentation to me - light gear is the rule.

Casting or spinning tackle and what line size and type.

Hook style and size depends on rigged weedless or open nose or wacky.

I use spinning tackle for drop shot with 7 lb sniper FC line.

Hooks; weedless Owner #5133 size 1/0 or 2/0 depending on worm diameter.

Open nose or wacky rig Owner size 1 Mosquito hook. Wacky rigged 5” Senko Owner size 1 Wacky Jungle weedless hook.

Pretty dumb question but I assume rocky reserviors nose hook and grassy areas texas rig?

I 100% tex rig them.   I own some nose hooks (octopus, I think) but I never use them.  I just whip that rig everywhere, and dont think about it.  I am also 100% 3/16th weights.  I got tired of me eventually mixing all my weights into one mystery compartment in my terminal tackle box.

I always use a #1 Gamakatsu EWG and Texas rig my baits.  Weight is important and I mostly use a 1/4 oz QuickDrop dropshot weight.  As for gear it totally depends on how I am going to be fishing the rig.  Verticle jigging, casting, bed fishing or dragging all are better suited to different gear.  The only common thread is that it’s all spinning with mono. Pic with baits shows a cheap BPS cylinder dropshot weight but the QuickDrop is my preferred weight.
