new equipment

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to fishing and do 99% of my fishing in minnesota on and around mille lacs.  started up last year and got myself a 6'6" gander mt guide series medium action rod with an okuma stinson spinning reel and got 10# mono line.  I use it for both bass and walleye but i'm looking to get another rod and reel for only bass or only walleye.

can anyone tell me what my current setup is best for and suggest tackle for the other?   I should tell you that i'm on a serious budget and need to keep the rod and reel <100$  my wife will kill me if i dont.   :-[   I had my eye on the Daiwa REGAL RG2500-Xi, comments?   what about a 1pc vs 2pc, braided vs mono?

thanks!

Don't think bass or walleye, the fish don't know what rod and reel you are using. Think of the water you fish, what lures you want to use and how. Then get an outfit appropriate for the lure or lures and your water..

Welcome aboard!

Whether you get the exact answer you are looking for or not on this thread, stay tuned. We have EXTENSIVE discussions on equipment everyday. Don't be intimidated, every pricing point is covered and your particular criteria is of interest to many (most) of our members.

My generic response is to look for a combination rod & reel in your price range at the major retailers, ON SALE! (They are ALWAYS on sale). These packages are the best value, you will get the best bang for the buck with a combo.

Also, check the Flea Market on this Forum regularly. Our members have new and "gently used" equipment for sale everyday. There are some GREAT deals on fishing equipment right here.

Agree with RW.

Look at the Shimano Sahara/BPS Bionic Blade combos at Bass Pro Shops.

Cabelas sells the fish eagle II combos and they're good.

Here is the one I would go with and it is only $109 for the combo. Plus you get a free shirt.

Exactly what I was going to recomend. I have a few of these combos and love them. The 7' M rod and the 6735 size reel is my favorite, I use it for just about all my weightless soft plastics w/ 8lb line.
