Daiwa Fuego LT Spinning Reel Bail (need help with Fix) Bail Closes when casting

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My bail closes when casting on my Daiwa Fuego LT Spinning reel at times.

I'm casting hard, but this should not happen.

I know how to cast and I open and close the bail arm manually with my hand.

I also make sure the bail arm is close to the rod, so it's not a user error (for once).

This is the only spinning reel that I have that this happens to.

When I manually close the bail arm, it seems to close too easily and doesn't feel like it's snaps into position like my other spinning reels.

It does open fully, it just doesn't feel snug in the open position and it takes little effort to close the bail arm.

I have also checked the screws around the bail arm assembly and the screws are all snug tight.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Any suggestions on how to fix it or help this issue?

Thanks,

Mike

Had the same problem as you on a Stradic FL. Only happens when you really try to whip the bait out - Otherwise the reels works flawlessly. I own cheaper and more expensive reels than that and none of the others have the same problem.

Couldn't even explain it to the guys fixing my reel so I ended up getting rid of it. Would love to hear If you find a fix for this problem.

Has it always done this, or is this a new problem? I have one of the reels, and I've never had the problem you're having. I use it a lot, and mine opens & closes normally, and has never closed on a cast.

I'm not sure what you need to do to fix it, but it definitely sounds like something is wrong with the reel.

Yeah, it's always done it. If I cast at like 80% power it doesn't do it. It's only when I want to bomb a cast where it happens. ticked me off b/c I snapped off 2 jerkbaits, so I might ditch the reel if I can't figure out a solution. Not worth it losing baits.

Hello Ersteman,

Weak bail spring or the catch that holds it in place might have build up not allowing the bail to latch open all of the way. You mentioned it closes easier then it should also.  It makes me wonder if there is a problem in the mechanism or pin affects how it latches (holds it open) until it is tripped. It just may need a good deep cleaning.

You might check out the Diawa web site and find a exploded view diagram of your reel and that could be helpful in troubleshooting the problem.

Delaware Valley Tackle (BR site sponsor and member) might have run across this same problem and chime in.

Best,

FM

The fact that the bail closes easily is evidence that the spring is strong and doing its job. If memory serves the bail arm just cams over holding it open. There is no latch per se holding it open. Be aware of the rotor position when opening the bail. In the wrong position the trip ramp can block it from opening fully and may result in what you’re seeing.

I've had this rotor issue with all of my fuegos, they can be a little funky with that. It's worse on some than others, but they all do it. Even the regals do it a little bit. So many possible causes for OP's problem

Thanks. Sounds like Daiwa problem. Good to know it's happening to someone else and not just me. Wish I didn't get 4 of them. lol. guess I'll have to make due and maybe come up with a creative solution or just not cast too hard.
