Flouro for trout?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a decent flourocarbon line for trout fishing. I'll be getting 4lb for my ultralight and I have never used flourocarbon before. I have heard good things about Yo Zuri Ultrasoft but can't seem to find it around here...maybe the new BPS will have it. Has anybody used tippet (like for fly fishing) as a leader while trout fishing? i'll be using 1/8 - 1/16 oz inline spinners. Thanks for the help!

Just buy some 4 lb. or 6 lb. Berkley Vanish.  I would recommend the 6 given the refractive properties of flourocarbon.

The way I do it is, I don't fill up the entire spoll with Flouro. because the memory will get nasty.  So, I just use a decent 4lb. mono and attach 5-7 feet of good flouro. to it using a blood knot.  I like the fact that flouro. is much less visible but it is more expensive so I use it this way to conserve it.  It has worked well for me with trout.

I recomend doing what bream master said. The fuorocarbon line on a spinning reel will come off like a slinky! You could also use braid instead of mono.

Original Yo-Zuri Hybrid is easier to find. I HIGHLY recommend #4 in green. It is almost invisible, much more managable than fluorocarbon and significantly stronger (8.5 lb test).

Run a Power pro to a flouro leader if practice the blood and uni knots are fine. I use a very small swival check Redwing Tackle they are a steelhead specailist for these small swivals.

so i take it that original yo-zuri hybrid isnt flourocarbon?

It's a mixture of both nylon and flouro.

Ultrasoft now comes in 2#.  You can find the smaller spools at Gander Mountain.  BPS and Cabelas sell small and large spools in-store and on-line.

oh i see, and how much does this stuff run, i only need a small spool because i'll only be trout fishing for like 4 days, and this is my back up setup to my fly rod.
