Rod for double fluke rig

Featured Replies

I’m considering investing in a rod almost exclusively for throwing the double fluke rig on the blueback herring lakes in my area. What type of rod is best for this? I’m thinking longer is needed to launch the long leaders, but I’m torn on power and action. It’s a fairly light rig for how cumbersome it is, and you want to have some good motion for subtly jerking it so make them “swim.” Some folks still seem to go for heavy/fast rods, and I’m struggling to see how that’s the best approach.

Thoughts on something like P5 Destroyer Javelin?

I have an ALX Ikos Soul73 that works good with the Donkey rig

7 ft 6 MXF Carbon lite. Does great

My setup is 7' Perigee ll MH/F with 2000 Spinning spooled 10B and 10FC leader. Works well for me fishing from the bank. May increase the # test on the braid .
