How’s everyone doing in the Midwest??

Featured Replies

I’m not sure about everyone else but I’m about tired of 20 mph winds all day lol. And I’d like some consistent weather lol. That said I’ve put some catches together on spinnerbaits or jigs or stick baits .

(thats al I’ve been throwing though) finesse jigs has been the ticket with a small trailer. But I feel like the weather just isn’t stable yet. And water temps aren’t up high enough.

Here in SWMO it has been very windy 25-50 mop gusts some days and we had heavy rain last week.  The water that I fish is muddy and surface temp runs around 55°.  Bites are few and far between.

Sounds a lot like here in Iowa. I can work a pond hard for a couple hours and get maybe 1-2 fish. Had one morning I put 4 together in 45 mins or so and was shocked. I wish the wind would stop I’ve been trying to work 3/16 finesse jigs and a trailer on 12 pound mono and I can feel it not even hit bottom in the wind lol once the line bows

I don’t have any ponds to fish.  The smallest place I can go is 17,000 acres so wind can be a thing.

Here in the southwest burbs of Chicago it’s definitely as described above. Yesterday was a pleasant day but it didn’t get as warm as predicted over the weekend and the dang winds are brutal when it does warm up.

Wind has been blowing here in Nebraska. Got my Dad down to Harlan Co Reservoir last weekend to chase wipers and walleye. Winds were 25-35MPH with gusts to 45MPH...but settled down a little around lunch time. We managed to put some in the live-well.

Have not bass fished much yet this spring. Just one bass in two trips so far.

Are you surprised? There isnt any trees or landscape variation in that state and the corn isn’t growing yet either. It’s just flat barren desolate fields of dirt right now lol

I went cycling in that.  Was flying on the Papio trail not even getting my heart rate up until I decided to turn around and head back to the truck into that 45mph gusts and 30 mph sustained wind.  My body still hurts.

Ugh! I've done that before...always wise to head in to the wind on the first leg : )

So yesterday was the perfect day for me with moderately warm temperatures and zero wind, a perfect day to try my new spinning reel which was in my car rigged up with a Ned head. Only problem was when I got to my favorite pond I realized I left my tackle bag at my house😟 So I’m going to try again today.

Oh man! That sucks. Good luck!

I tried out a new jig rod and reel I hit for light jigs and Texas rigs this morning. Before work. But of course had 15-20mph winds lol. But it casted amazing! Got one small 1 pounder.

Omaha area here - far too much wind for my liking.

It’s been awful. I was just telling my wife I would like to have some time with no wind before it’s 100 degrees. Then we will be cold again lol

Well par for the course I’m leaving work now fishing rod, reel and tackle bag in the vehicle and we’re getting a nice steady rain.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pretty much just rain and wind here in Iowa.

Saturday was the first day without rain it seemed.

Went to a somewhat local 40 acre lake and it looked like Leech Lake.

Goodness gracias it was packed with boats for such a small lake.

Landed 3, lost a couple. One biggie.

Oh wow! Yeah I’m near the Des Moines area. Wind has still been bad. Rain missed us yesterday. I went out this morning got some on an underpin. Nothing to write home about tho.

I'm about 2 hours east of you.

Windy again today.

No fishing for me though as my youngest has a track meet.  :)

Oh nice! Good luck to the youngest! Yeah I only went for about an hour before work lol. Between work and my kiddos it’s hard to find more than a couple hours

Here in East Central Mo., the bass are in spawn mode.  As far as I can tell the catching is dependent on the weather.  Sunny and warm days no bites.  The bass are biting better when there is rain and wind, but this spring it doesn't seem to be as gusty as in previous years.

Haven’t noticed any beds yet here. But I haven’t truly tried to find any either. I agree with that thin sunny calm day. No bites. Need some wind or overcast
