Loomis GLX jerkbait rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have any experience with the 2024 glx jbr rod? Reviews are hard to come by and wanted to see if anyone has fished this rod and how do they like it.
I currently have the Expride 6’10m which I really like but am in the market for another jerkbait rod. I like the faster tip rods for throwing jerkbaits and hear the glx is similar to the Expride with a little slower recovery speed on the twitch and shorter handle.
Im also considering the mb oneten stick but wanted to get input on the glx before pulling the trigger.
likely be throwing mb jr +1s and vision 110s most of the time. Any input on the glx jbr is much appreciated. TIA

Not a GLX but my favorite Loomis jerkbait rod is the IMX 802 top water rod.

I have it and have fished it on Lanier the past 2 weekends and had a great time catching spots on a 110+1 JR with it.  Got very good casting distance and felt it was very responsive on the cadence working the bait with good backbone on the fight.  I had a problem keeping fish pinned the first weekend but I think my drag was a bit too loose and wasn't getting good hooksets(also caught a 5# channel cat on the jerkbait and didn't realize how badly my hooks got mangled🤣).  I had 2 to come off yesterday when they jumped landed the other 6.  I can't compare it to the Expride A but I did have a Expride B that I didn't like it's stiffness and sold quickly this GLX feels way better than the B felt.

Funny, I'm contemplating either the 2024 GLX JBR or 6'11" Destroyer P5 OneTen Special. Like everyone, looking for the perfect jerkbait rod to both impart the right action and also keep fish pinned. Hard combo to find.

I'm a recovering Expride jerkbait rod owner. Absolutely disliked the long handle on that rod - and the two rods I'm considering above, the handles are a good 1.5-2.0 inches shorter.

I have the 110 Special.

Love it.

There’s nothing more beautiful than the P5’s.

Have you fished both the 6’5” and the 6’11? Curious if you have a preference there… Also, one concern with megabases is the three-year warranty versus Loomis lifetime. Both rods are great quality, but the two blanks that I’ve snapped in my life were both megabass which gives me some pause on a $500 rod.

I’ve never touched the JDM version so I really can’t voice an opinion.

It’s just a fun rod to fish with.

I know Wprich above said he threw 110 jr’s on the GLX just fine.  How does the Oneten Special throw that or an even slightly lighter Zumverno 95 (.33 oz)?

Couple of 5 star reviews on TW...

A true jerkbait rod worthy the brand. Significantly softer tip then IMX 812, pretty much an Expride action but with slower recovery. Incredible sensitivity - light as a feather. And the handle is perfect for twitching baits. A must have!

Upgraded expride 6'10"MI haven't fished it yet, but from bend testing and handling this rod it is perfect. Exactly the same power and taper as the Expride A 6'10"M ( I don't own a B model of that rod). Much lighter and shorter handle. The shorter handle is a big improvement for jerkbaits and topwaters. Balance point is slightly further forward of the reel, but not by much. Without a reel mounted, it felt too heavy but feels great with an alphas 800 the balance and feel is amazing. Can't wait to fish it!

Absolute PERFECT timing. Lol

I’ve always thrown the standard sized 110’s until last night.

I went to a very local, very small lake with my son last night.

I tied on a 110 jr hoping to catch some crappies or bass.

I honestly wasn’t sure myself how it would handle the jr but it did just as well as the normal size.

the reel I have it paired up with is the 24 Shimano SLX. There’s no way you can beat this reel for $110. Zero chance.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I decided to pull the trigger and order the glx jbr paired with a metanium mgl. Will provide an update after I receive it and get it out on the water to lean on a few. 🎣

Think you'll love it I have a Alphas with 10# Seaguar R18 fluoro that I decided to try out on mine.
