Cabela's (BPS) Fluorocarbon XPS line

Featured Replies

Anyone use this on the cheap?  It's KVD signature line sold as XPS by Bass Pro.

I picked up a spool of 12# line and changed out my dad's vintage Berkley Tri-Sport T32 Med/Hvy action 7' spinning rod & Spinmaster Diamond ("clone" of South Bend) spinning reel.  Took up all 200 yards on the spool...

Butch,

You might have issues with line slap (line hitting the rod as the loops come off the reel during the cast) with that heavy of Fluorocarbon.  It's stiffer then monofilament and way stiffer then braid.

Also In my experience with fluorocarbon and spinning reels is the line when freshly spooled likes to keep coming off of the spool long after the cast has stopped. I found I had to feather the line with my fingers and close the bail manually to keep that from happening. It gets really ugly, really fast with a puddle of line at your feet or in your lap if not caught quickly.

Wow... thanks!!

The other spool in the tacklebox has 10# braid that I changed out last year.

I figured I try this out a tad heavier for Stripers or massive flathead catfish.

You might trying treating the line with line conditioner. I'm not sure how it would act after being on the spool for awhile.

With FC you usually want to drop a class in strength to mitigate memory issues.

2500 reel - keep it to 8# or less

3000 reel - max of 10#

If you want to use 12#+ - go to a casting rig.

KVD L&L is what I use on everything except braid to make line more manageable.

I fish flouro on spinning rods alot. I don't recommend going above 10 pound test. I use 8 for my ned rigs and small crankbaits and 6 for spybaits. It is a bit tricky until you get used to it. The most important thing I can say is to make sure you have no slack in the line when you flip the bale over and start reeling. I usually accomplish this by holding the rod vertical after I close the bale and before I reel.

I’ve got that 10# flouro on something. I can’t remember. I just bought it the other day. Maybe I bought it for leader material as I don’t remember spooling anything with it…

As with most offshore manufacturing, it is likely that this line is actually Seaguar (or another name brand) line branded as XPS. I have heard that their flouro was just re-branded Seaguar before. Was led to believe the same thing by the fishing dept at BPS for the one week I worked there 😂

Took this from an article on who makes it on anglers advantage web site

Bass Pro Shops doesn’t actually manufacture their own fishing line in-house. Instead, they source from reputable manufacturers who specialize in producing quality merchandise for various brands. One such manufacturer is Sunline America LLC, a leading producer and supplier of premium fishing lines used by professionals and amateur anglers alike.
