Diawa Mangetsu vs Tatula 150

Can anyone explain to me the difference between the Mangetsu, and the new Tatula 150, other than different color, cork handles and $100? Also, are there any practical differences between the new Tat 150 and the older model Tatula 150?  All I can see is the new 150 doesn't have the spider on the real, and costs $40 more.  I might be willing to fork over the extra $40 to not have the spider, but it would be nice to know if there is any other benefits.  The Mangetsu costs the same as a Zillion TW HD from Digitika, is there any reason to get the Mangetsu over the Zillion from Japan?

Thank you for asking what I was afraid to ask 👍🏻

Also, to answer your question about the new Tatula 150, we don't know yet but it looks like the new one uses a narrow spool and some frame contouring to make the reel less wide and a taller spool.  Tall and narrow vs the old low and wide.  This is a new vs old 200 size approximation.  The 150s use the same frame so this size applies to them as well.  What is not shown is the height difference.

Me being a pragmatic person sees the Mangetsu as an old Tatula with new gears and cork knobs for a lot of money.

The new Tatula 150 seems to be a good redesign for less money.  Mangetsu sure looks good though.

No. Spring for another zil 1000HD or buy a SLP Daiwa zillion which is based off the HD1000 and pick out your own 34 mm spool to do whatever you please, pick out your own handle and then it’s totally yours..

Ran into a buddy of mine last blue fishing last night.  He was using one of those reels.  One thing I can say for sure is that reel is a caster.  He was tossing a Catch 2k close to 60 yards with a 10kt cross wind.  I thought it was a Bates GOAT at first, he likes those reels.  After asking him about it, he said it was totally stock.  According to him, out of the box it might be the best casting low pro he has, and there aren't many reels he's doesn't have or hasn't have had and sold.

Thanks for sharing.  That aligns with what I expect from an OG Tatula.  They are great casting reels with baits in that range.  The Type R has a spool that is a bit lighter than a normal Tatula 150 but I am not sure if the Mangetsu gets this lighter spool.  I'd assume so since it looks to be a Tatula Type R 2.0 but you'd have to weigh one to see.  Either way it would only help with control with heavier baits and ease of casting bats under 1/4 oz.  I actually swapped mine out for a Ray's Studio SV type spool since I mostly skip plastics with mine.
