JDM Zillion for heavier duty stuff

Featured Replies

I’m thinking about experimenting and changing around some of my reels in different rods. This swap would put heavier braid on my zillion and put it on a rod used for punching, frogging, and swimbaits up to 2oz. The JDM version has aluminum gears? Would this be too much for this reel and risk damaging it? I won’t do this if there’s a risk.

Wouldn't say that it's too much, but the Zillion HD would've been better for the job, though.

Thsts the reel on it now, I was just thinking about putting it on my jig rod because it’s a 8.1 speed.

I haven't checked in a while, but you should be able to buy a brass gear set from the tackle trap for a reasonable price if you're worried about the aluminum gears.

Yes but it depends largely on which Zillion he’s referring too. (Model or years of production)

I wouldn't worry about aluminum since it's the drive gear.  If the pinion were aluminum, then I would worry since the pinion takes most of the abuse.

Send it! This whole brass gears and heavy reels are required is regurgitating reel company portfolio expansion sales bs. Sure , are there some differences here and there ? Yeah. Most of which none of us will see
