10.20 largemouth on Cayuga Lake in New York

Featured Replies

No, I didn't catch it. But you can check it out on YouTube. I tried to link the video but could not get it to work. Anyway, the video is by Wolfblood Fishing and was posted a day ago. This fish is a true Unicorn for this area. The catch begins at around 9min 30 sec in the video.

Wow. Cayuga keeps pumping out giants. NY’s LM record is gonna fall again soon.

Crazy that this fish is about the same length as my NYS PB, just 4 pounds heavier.

I've never fished there but I keep seeing giants pulled out of there.  Crazy big for the North.  Any insight on why the fishery has been on the upswing?  Change in water quality? Forage base expansion, etc?

@softwateronly I believe it’s the round gobies from the Great Lakes. They’ve been confirmed in Cayuga. May not be the only factor but probably the biggest one.

Scooby snack for just about anything that can choke it down.

No doubt!  Absolutely rearranged sport fishing in Lake Michigan over the last 25 years and I'm all for it.  Thanks Russia!!

My longest bass in NY is 22.5", so about an inch shorter than his... but you're right, mine was nowhere near as heavy. The girth on his fish is startling. Soooo thick.

Not sure how ethical it would be but I think it would be such a cool study for researchers to experiment with different forages to find out the growth rates for both smallmouth and largemouth bass.
